Lung transplantation is the treatment of last resort for many chronic lung diseases. Airway complications (AC) following lung transplantation, such as bronchial stenosis, dehiscence, malacia, and fistula, account for frequent hospital admissions, additional treatment costs, decreased quality of life, and reduced survival rates. Beyond surgical and medical preventive efforts, interventional bronchoscopy (IB) can be used in the management of these complications. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of IB on the management of AC following lung transplantation. ⋯ IB is safe to perform on lung transplant patients with AC. It has low procedural complication rates and can be performed repeatedly. Because of the high rate of restenosis, interventional pulmonologists should find out treatment modalities with lower rates of restenosis.

Türkiye is a country with an increasing life expectancy and an older adult population in parallel with the rest of the world. Several national small-scale studies were performed regarding the prevalence and characteristics of dementia in Türkiye, and the results of these studies differ from each other. We aimed to determine the prevalence of dementia in Türkiye to present the demographic characteristics, the frequency of use of health services, and the management of dementia. ⋯ The prevalence of patients living with dementia in Türkiye is lower than the global average. This suggests that most dementia cases are overlooked, highlighting the need to raise dementia awareness both in the community and among primary health care providers who frequently encounter older individuals. The study is significant in that it is the first to show the nationwide frequency of dementia in Türkiye.

In open heart surgery, sternotomy causes inflammation in tissues, and inflammation causes postoperative pain. This study aims to examine the effects of bilateral erector spinae plane (ESP) blocks on postoperative extubation time and laboratory parameters in open heart surgery. ⋯ It would be useful for anesthesiologists to know that erector spinae plane blocks applied in the preoperative period in cardiac surgeries not only shorten the mechanical ventilation and hospitalization times but also provide lower troponin values in the postoperative period patient follow-ups.

There is no specific marker that can be applied to determine the severity of Behçet's disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin (CAR) ratio as a tool for assessing the severity of Behçet's disease. ⋯ CAR can be used as a quick and easily calculated parameter to assess the severity of Behçet's disease.

Uterine leiomyosarcomas (uLMS) are extremely rare high-grade tumors with a poor prognosis. Their etiopathogenesis remains largely unknown. The uterus is the most frequent site for LMS. uLMS and uterine leiomyoma (uLM) must frequently be differentiated in patients with a uterine mass. Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), a cytoplasmic protein, is involved in the progression and spread of a variety of cancer types. The expression of NNMT in a mesenchymal malignancy was not examined previously. This study represents the first investigation into NNMT expression in uLMS, uLM and benign uterine myometrium and correlates NNMT overexpression with worse prognosis in uLMS. ⋯ NNMT can aid in the preoperative differentiation of uLMS and uLM. The consequences of NNMT overexpression, such as the activation and inactivation of oncoproteins and tumor suppressor proteins, respectively, as well as the enrichment of the cancer stem cell population, overlap with the major mechanisms responsible for poor prognosis in mesenchymal tumors. NNMT may be investigated further in the context of antitumor treatment in patients with mesenchymal malignancies.
