Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease that leads to tissue stiffening secondary to lymphocyte infiltration of the thyroid gland. Gray-scale ultrasound (US) is widely used in its diagnosis. Numerous studies have been conducted comparing elastography findings of HT with tissue stiffness and immunoreactivity levels. This study aims to reveal the relationship between shear wave elastography (SWE) and Doppler parameters in patients with HT. ⋯ A positive correlation was found between PI and RI values and elastography values. An increase in SWE and decreases in Vmax and Vmin were found as high diagnostic value for HT.

The effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester and Ankaferd blood stopper® on the diabetic and non-diabetic gingival wound healing: an experimental study.
Healthy wound healing is very important for patient comfort. Diabetes is one of the factors that negatively affect wound healing. Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) are antiinflammatory and antimicrobial agents and may have positive effects on wound healing. ⋯ ABS and CAPE have been found to have positive effects on gingival wound healing in the nondiabetic group. We think that this situation is caused by its antiinflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a disease that is mainly diagnosed with clinical features. Several well- known inflammatory markers increase in FMF. However, there is still a need for diagnostic tests for specifying FMF and monitoring inflammatory activity. CXCL16 is a chemokine produced by inflammatory cells that demonstrate efficacy in the acute phase response. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between CXCL16 levels and FMF disease and to evaluate CXCL16 levels as a novel biomarker for FMF. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study evaluating serum soluble CXCL16 levels as a biomarker for FMF. CXCL16 levels were significantly higher and were predictive for monitoring inflammatory activity in patients with FMF. CXCL16 may be a promising biomarker for FMF diagnosis.

Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) originates from parafollicular cells (C cell) and produces calcitonin (CT). Basal serum CT was used in the diagnosis and treatment of MTC. If basal CT level is 100 pg/mL or higher, it is likely to have MTC, but if basal CT level is below 10 pg/mL, the probability of developing thyroid disease is low. In cases with basal CT level between 10–100 pg/mL, pentagastrin-stimulated (PS) CT level is studied to evaluate MTC and C cell hyperplasia (CHH). This study aimed to determine cut-off value for basal and PS peak CT level for diagnosis of MTC. ⋯ In this study, cut-off value was calculated as 46.5 pg/mL for basal CT, whereas 285 pg/mL for PS peak CT in the diagnosis of preoperative MTC.

To determine risk factors associated with the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients 10 years after giving birth. ⋯ In this long-term study, we found that patients with high fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and insulin requirement during pregnancy are at an increased risk of developing T2DM, while pregestational obesity is predictive of progression to MetS. Identifying and targeting high-risk individuals may delay and possibly prevent T2DM and MetS.
