Malnutrition is common in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), especially in the end stages of the disease where heart failure symptoms predominate. Malnutrition has been associated with atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease, but it is unknown whether a similar relationship exists between malnutrition and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). In the present study, we aimed to analyse whether indices of malnutrition were associated with coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with DCM. ⋯ Our findings indicate that not malnutrition per se but a combination of inflammation activation and malnutrition is predictive of CMD in patients with DCM.

High-dose melphalan and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) is the standard treatment strategy for multiple myeloma (MM) patients who are eligible for it. The recommended dose of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) for adequate engraftment is above 2 × 106/kg. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the dose of CD34+HPCs and survival in MM patients who underwent AHSCT at a tertiary care center. ⋯ The increased amount of CD34+ autologous hematopoietic stem cell dose after high dose melphalan chemotherapy in MM patients shortened the platelet and neutrophil engraftment time and increased OS. Early platelet engraftment and administration of a CD34+ HPC count that is ≥5 × 106/kg can be considered as predictors of better survival in patients.

TETANUS VACCINE DURING PREGNANCY: DATA OF A TERTIARY HOSPITAL IN TURKEY.
To evaluate the prevalence of tetanus vaccination in pregnant women and determine the factors affecting the vaccination and barriers to vaccination. ⋯ All pregnant women should be encouraged to get regular antenatal care to increase vaccination rates. Health care providers should give all pregnant women detailed information about the safety, effectivity, and benefits of vaccines.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics and parameters that determined the clinical course and prognosis of the COVID-19 patients admitted to Ankara City Hospital during the first month of the pandemic in Turkey. ⋯ This cohort study regarding COVID-19 cases in Turkey reveals that older age, presence of comorbidity, bilateral infiltration on CT, high neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, low monocyte and platelet count, elevated liver enzymes, low GFR, high levels of muscle enzymes, and high levels of ferritin and IL-6 on admission are predictors of SARI and severe disease.

Alopecia areata (AA) is an inflammatory disease with a genetic and autoimmune basis. Herein, it was aimed to study the efficacy and safety of an immunomodulatory therapeutic agent, diphenylcyclopropenone, while manifesting its association with histopathological features, prognostic factors, and side effects. ⋯ There was a significant relation between the severity of alopecia and the treatment outcome (P = 0.038). Patients with AA had significantly better response when compared to those with alopecia totalis and universalis. There was no statistically significant relation with other parameters, such as disease duration, age, sex, atopy history, age of onset, and histopathological features.
