Diagnosing and managing functional mitral regurgitation (MR) is often challenging and requires an integrated approach including a comprehensive echocardiographic examination. However, the effects of volume overload on the echocardiographic assessment of MR severity are uncertain. The purpose of this study was to weigh the effects of volume overload in the echocardiographic assessment of MR severity among patients with heart failure (HF). ⋯ This is the first study to investigate the relationship of changes in severity of MR with volume-load by monitoring the proBNP levels among patients with HF. The present results demonstrated that volume reduction, as evidenced by a decline in the proBNP levels, was accompanied by a marked reduction in the EROA, VC, and the RV among patients with left ventricular dysfunction.

In this study, our objective was to evaluate the mortality in geriatric hip fracture patients who were operated within 48 h after admission or after the 48thh. ⋯ Although shortening the time to surgery may have some rationale, we did not find any difference in patients operated before 48 h compared to 48–96 h concerning mortality.

Pilon fracture is difficult to treat fractures due to many complications that can develop after surgery. To achieve the best results, different surgical approaches are used.In our study, we aimed to compare the functional results and complication rates of our treatments in patients treated with 3 different surgical tecniques. ⋯ Despite the different surgical approaches and implants applied, no difference was found between the midterm ankle functional results of the patients. Two-stage surgery and Ilizarov is a safe and effective treatment approach to reduce morbidity and early complications in pilon fractures.

Ischemia is insufficient blood flow to provide adequate oxygenation. In the present study, we aimed to show whether acute hypoxia has a critical oxygen value that may lead to the deterioration of cochlear function. ⋯ Many studies have been conducted on the effects of hypoxia on the inner ear. It remains unclear how fluctuations in DPOAE levels affect hearing in clinical trials when the SaO2 starts to decrease. Although hypoxia has been implicated in the etiology of sudden hearing loss and tinnitus, the effects of acute hypoxia on the cochlea are still uncertain. Further studies are needed on this subject.

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is used previously to estimate the etiology, severity, and clinical outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the role of urinary NGAL (uNGAL) in the postrenal setting is not clear. In our study, we aimed to discover the cut-off value of uNGAL that can be used in the differential diagnosis of underlying AKI etiologies. ⋯ Patients with AKI must be classified according to the underlying etiologies as soon as possible. uNGAL may be useful to estimate the etiologies, and whether the problem is acute or chronic in the course. In postrenal kidney problems, to plan the urgency of the urologic procedures, it is crucial.
