Bone tumor is one of the major causes of tissue bone loss, particularly after performing surgical excision operation to bone lesion that needs to be replaced by biomaterials and ensure a complete filling of tissue-loss spaces. The purpose of our study was to produce a nanofiber-based bone graft scaffold to fill the gaps resulted from bone cancer treatment and also capable of carrying functional molecules that can play a major role in preventing further cancer growth at the targeted bone tissue. ⋯ It was concluded that successful formation of bone tissue mimicking scaffold can be achieved by using Electrospinning method that produces nonwoven nanofibers and at the same time can hold functional anticancer agent such as Baicalein, which may allow using these types of scaffold in bone cancer treatment procedures.

Overt thyroidism is known to cause neuropsychiatric disorders but studies on subclinical hyperthyroidism (SCH) are limited. Subclinical hyperthyroidism induction by administering L-Thyroxine (LT4) is the standard treatment method in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) follow-up. Our aim was to investigate whether anxiety, depression and quality of life are affected in DTC patients followed-up with exogenous SCH. ⋯ LT4-induced SCH, which is a part of traditional DTC treatment, can exacerbate the anxiety symptoms in patients and disrupt their quality of life, depending on the level of fT4.

To compare the effects of bilateral proximal tubal occlusion and bilateral total salpingectomy on ovarian reserve and the cholinergic system via rat experiment. ⋯ Compared to the bilateral proximal tubal occlusion performed by using bipolar cautery, bilateral total salpingectomy in rats leads to a significant damage in ovarian histopathology and the cholinergic system.

We aimed to develop a rapid method to enumerate Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) utilizing magnetic nanoparticle based preconcentration and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy measurements. ⋯ It is focused on the enumeration of L. monocytogenes in milk samples and the comparision of results of milk analysis obtained by the proposed SERS method and by plate counting method stay in food agreement. In the present study, all parameters were optimized to select SERS-based immunoassay method for L. monocytogenes bacteria to ensure LOD, selectivity, precision and repeatablity.

Quarter of colorectal cancer patients have a family history and 6% of these comprise hereditary cancer syndromes. For developing national health strategies for genetic screening, it is crucial to determine the spectrum of damaging alterations in causative genes and to describe frequent founder mutations. ⋯ This study is the first study in Turkish colorectal cancer patients using next-generation sequencing. Point mutation screening in the families of patients with mutations will be able to identify individuals at risk in a cost-effective manner.
