Bacterial adherence to a suture material is one of the main causes of surgical site infections. An antibacterial suture material with enhanced wound healing function may protect the surgical site from infections. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the synergistic effect of propolis and biogenic metallic nanoparticles when combined with silk sutures for biomedical use. ⋯ Coating the silk sutures with propolis and biogenic AgNPs gave an effective antibacterial capacity to surgical sutures besides providing biocompatibility and wound healing activity.

The effects of pregabalin and adductor canal block on postoperative pain in arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
To determine the effectiveness of pregabalin and adductor canal block on opioid consumption, postoperative pain, and fast-tracking. ⋯ Preoperative pregabalin (150 mg) reduced postoperative opioid consumption as much as adductor canal block in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. The first analgesic requirement was earlier in group C than in groups P and A. In addition, pregabalin can prolong the duration of spinal sensory block and shorten the time required to achieve high fast-tracking scores. We recommend the use of both methods as a part of multimodal analgesia.

Multicenter study of levodopa carbidopa intestinal gel in Parkinson’s disease: the Turkish experience
Our purpose was to determine the efficacy of levodopa carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) in a series of Turkish patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). ⋯ As detected by a survey performed by telephone calls with good interrater reliability, patients with PD improve with LCIG treatment in many aspects of the disease.

Autoimmune gastritis is an autoimmune and inflammatory disorder. The aim of this study is to examine dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis and ischemia modified albumin levels, and to analyze the association between thiol/disulfide homeostasis and gastric emptying time in autoimmune gastritis. ⋯ The results showed that thiol/disulfide homeostasis in patients with autoimmune gastritis caused an increase in ischemia modified albumin and disulfide whereas a decrease in thiols. An altered thiol/disulfide balance was also observed in patients with delayed gastric emptying. These results suggest that the oxidative process is involved in patients with autoimmune gastritis.

Comparison of direct laryngoscope and McGrath videolaryngoscope in terms of glottic view and hemodynamics in bariatric surgery
In the recent years, videolaryngoscopes (VL) have emerged as alternative devices to direct laryngoscopes (DL) in difficult intubation situations. Therefore, we aimed to compare the Macintosh DL and McGrath VL in terms of the glottic image quality, intubation success, intubation time, hemodynamic response after intubation, and complications in bariatric surgery patients. ⋯ Although we measured longer intubation times with the McGrath VL compared with the Macintosh DL, we obtained a better glottic image without causing hemodynamic changes. However, these findings did not make any difference in terms of intubation success.
