This study aims to determine the possible embryotoxic effects of propofol on the cerebellum and spinal cord using fertile chicken eggs. ⋯ It was concluded that the in-ovo-administered propofol given immediately before incubation has adverse effects on the developing cerebellum and spinal cord. Therefore, it is important for anesthesiologists always to remain vigilant when treating female patients of childbearing age.

Obesity is a chronic metabolic disease involving dysregulation of fat metabolism that affects 13% of the world's population. Obesity has been linked to dyslipidemia with a lot of complication, including stroke, chronic kidney disease, fatty liver disease, and so on. One of the natural resources that have several potential effects including anticholesterol, antiobesity, and antidyslipidemia is the butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea/CT). CT's petal has been found to contain high levels of anthocyanins and tannins that can inhibit the biosynthesis of cholesterol and lipid. This study aims to investigate the antiobesity and antidyslipidemic effects of Clitoria ternatea extract (CTE). ⋯ This study shows that Clitoria ternatea petals aqueous extract promotes amelioration of the lipid profile, body weight, and tunica thickness in rats with the high-fat diet.

Phthalates are the materials used for plasticizing polyvinyl chloride. Di-(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is one of the phthalates most frequently used in a wide range of applications, including medical equipment such as endotracheal and feeding tubes, intravenous catheters, central lines, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation sets, total parenteral nutrition bags, blood product sets, and intravenous pump lines, respiratory sets in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Studies have shown that phthalates, including DEHP, can cross the placenta and blood-brain barrier, possibly leading to neurodevelopmental impairment in vitro and in vivo. However, the molecular mechanisms affected by phthalate exposure have not been explored in depth. This study aimed to illuminate the effects of DEHP on neuroinflammation at the molecular level using neonatal microglial cells as the model. ⋯ This study indicates that neonatal exposure to DEHP may be linked to neurodevelopmental impairment via inflammation-related cell death and ferroptosis. The prevalence of DEHP in NICU medical devices raises concerns about potential neurodevelopmental deficits, including disorders like autism and mental retardation. These findings highlight the urgency of addressing DEHP exposure in neonatal care.

In practice, waiting 2-3 weeks for interpolation flaps pedicle division result in certain morbidities and discomfort for patient. The division time of flap pedicle depends on neovascularization from the recipient bed and includes wound healing stages. We aimed to investigate the effect of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) on the flap viability during early pedicle division. ⋯ Following the application of EGF, the necrosis area decreased within the study group. Histopathological assessments revealed a statistically significant increase in parameters related to granulation tissue and fibroblastic activity, notably neovascularization, across all subgroups within the study. It was concluded that the use of EGF positively affected the neovascularization, and flaps could be divided earlier.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious condition that predominantly affects premature infants and involves an aberrant immune response and inflammatory cytokine release resulting in intestinal epithelial damage. The current study investigated the immunoregulatory effects of vitamin D3 on the maturation and activation of dendritic cells (DCs) and the antiinflammatory impact on the intestines in a neonatal rat model of NEC.Materials and methods: Inflammatory damage to intestinal tissue was assessed via morphological changes and apoptosis and DC expression of costimulatory molecules, inflammatory factors, and immunoregulatory factors by immunohistochemical staining, quantitative real-time PCR, and immunofluorescence. The fluorescein isothiocyanate-ovalbumin (FITC-OVA) uptake assay was used to analyze DC endocytosis. ⋯ Vitamin D3 has potential as a supplementary treatment for NEC patients.
