Tumour necrosis factor inhibitors and anti-interleukin-6 (anti-IL-6) therapies are increasingly being used in Takayasu's arteritis (TA) patients who are unresponsive to corticosteroids ± conventional immunosuppressive agents. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of anti-IL-6 (tocilizumab) therapy in refractory TA patients in real life. ⋯ Based on retrospective real life data, anti-IL-6 (tocilizumab) appears to be an effective and tolerable treatment option in refractory TA patients.

Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is an autoimmune syndrome caused by transplacental transmission of maternal autoantibodies, often with devastating consequences. The objective of this systematic literature review was to analyze the demographic data, geoepidemiology, clinical, and serological characteristics associated with NLE. ⋯ Phenotypic differences of NLE depending on race and country may reflect true pathophysiologic differences or methodologic discrepancies. While maternal autoimmune disease is not a prerequisite for the development of NLE, the existence of a truly “immunonegative” CHB is questionable.

Radiographic comparison of cervical spine motion using LMA Fastrach, LMA CTrach, and the Macintosh laryngoscope
The optimal technique for airway management in patients with cervical pathology remains unclear. Intubating laryngeal mask airway devices such as LMA CTrach and LMA Fastrach have not been compared for cervical spine (C-spine) movements in the context of cervical pathology. The present study aimed to determine upper C-spine movements by radiography during intubation with different devices as well as comparing the duration and success of intubation in cervical surgery. ⋯ The LMA CTrach laryngoscopy involves less upper C-spine movement than the LMA Fastrach and does not increase the duration of the intubation period.

We aimed to evaluate the size/tortuosity of the optic nerve (ON) and the dilatation of the ON sheath (ONS) in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) patients with 3T-MRI, and to assess the usefulness of 3D-SPACE in imaging the optic pathway, ON, and ONS in NF-1 patients. ⋯ ON tortuosity and ONS diameter were increased in NF-1 patients in the presence of OPG. High-resolution cranium imaging with the 3D-SPACE technique using 3T-MRI seems to be helpful for detection of the optic pathway morphology and pathologies in NF-1 patients.

Since January 2015, the Cystic Fibrosis Newborn Screening (CFNS) program has been implemented in Turkey. We aimed to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and laboratory data of cases referred from the CFNS program and to determine the most suitable cut-off value for immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT)-1 and immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT-2) that are used in the CFNS program in Turkey. ⋯ This is the first detailed clinical study to evaluate the data from the CFNS program along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. As false positive results are extremely high in Turkey, there is an urgent need for revision of the IRT-1 and IRT-2 limits by evaluating the data of the whole country.
