The effect of pregabalin on tourniquet-induced ischemia-reperfusion injury: a prospective randomized study
The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of pregabalin on ischemia-reperfusion injuries. ⋯ Pregabalin has no marked antioxidant activity, but it contributes to the antioxidant defense system of an organism.

The possibility of adverse effects of the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) carried out for the screening of gestational diabetes among pregnant women and fetuses is a frequently discussed topic. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the hyperglycemia peak during OGTT on the levels of oxidants and antioxidants in the body. ⋯ Oxidative stress parameters were increased and antioxidative parameters were decreased during the OGTT. However, more extended studies are required to determine the effects of the increased oxidative stress on pregnant women and fetuses.

We evaluate whether transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy might lead to spillage of tumor cells into peripheral blood as a result of disruption of the epithelial barrier and ultimately result in metastasis. ⋯ We detected no circulating tumor cells in the peripheral circulation following biopsy. Prostate needle biopsy seems to be a safe method in terms of spillage of tumor cells into blood circulation as a possible cause of further metastasis.

Autoimmune diseases are a remarkable issue for researchers due to their adverse effects on the auditory system, but for primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS) there is little research on the comprehensive audiological findings in literature. The main objective of this study was to investigate the medial olivocochlear efferent functions of subjects with pSS and to examine the audiological findings. ⋯ The study indicates that because of obtaining normal suppression levels in DPOAE, the medial olivocochlear efferent system is functional in pSS. However, there is a need for more tests, including auditory brainstem response, to evaluate the afferent auditory system in pSS.

The Pipeline Flex Embolization Device (PED Flex) is a new updated version of the PED classic that incorporates a new delivery system to allow facilitation of stent deployment, resheathing, and removal of the capture coil. This study evaluated the PED Flex in terms of the technical aspects of the procedure and first-year follow-up results. ⋯ Our experience shows that the applicability and safety of the renewed delivery system provided by PED Flex for improving device apposition and opening has been proven with one-year angiographic and clinical follow-up results.
