The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of preprocedural uric acid (UA) level in predicting fractional flow reserve (FFR) results of intermediate coronary lesions in patients with stable coronary artery disease undergoing coronary angiography. ⋯ Elevated UA levels are associated with hemodynamically significant coronary lesions measured with FFR. Uric acid may be used as a predictor of hemodynamically compromised coronary lesions before FFR procedures.

This study aimed to assess the correlations of actual epidural depth (ND) and ultrasound estimated epidural depth in the paramedian sagittal oblique plane (ED/PSO) and transverse median plane (ED/TM) with the abdominal girth (AG), body mass index (BMI), and weight of patients. ⋯ AG, weight, and BMI have strong correlations with ND.

Cisplatin is a highly effective chemotherapeutic agent used in the treatment of solid organ cancers. Besides its chemotherapeutic effectiveness, cisplatin administration is associated with numerous side effects. Of those, the most clinically significant and common effect is nephrotoxicity. Recent studies reported that oxidative stress and inflammation are probably the most important mechanisms that contribute to the nephrotoxicity. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an antioxidant and antiinflammatory agent. In the present study, the effects of NAC on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity were investigated. ⋯ It is suggested that inflammation has a limited effect on cisplatin nephrotoxicity in this experimental design, and, as reflected by decreased BUN and creatinine levels, NAC can be used as an additional therapeutic agent in standard cisplatin treatment protocols.

The aim of this study was to evaluate anesthesia management in cesarean operation of pregnant women who underwent renal transplantation and the effects on postoperative renal function, retrospectively. ⋯ If there is no contraindication, regional anesthesia may be preferred in the first place for pregnant women with renal transplantation. We suggest that this method of anesthesia has some advantages in terms of maintaining postoperative renal function and higher Apgar scores in newborns with low birth weight.

Multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been investigated in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) due to their immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. In this study, their immunosuppressive effects on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of RA patients were studied. ⋯ Such cells could potentially be a source for future immunomodulatory treatments of RA patients.
