The iliac crest tangent (ICT) has recently emerged as a reliable landmark to correctly number the lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV). We retrospectively evaluated the reproducibility and accuracy of the ICT as a landmark in subjects without disc degeneration. ⋯ ICT does not seem to be a reliable landmark for correct numbering of LSTV in patients with no intervertebral disc degeneration.

The effects of uterine size with or without abdominal obesity on spinal block level and vasopressor requirement in elective cesarean section: a prospective observational study
Hypotension is a serious complication caused by spinal anesthesia that places both the mother and fetus at increased risk. We aimed to investigate the effects of uterine size with or without abdominal obesity on sensory block level of pregnant women receiving spinal anesthesia. ⋯ SPX values and combined newborn and placenta weights are more predictive of sensory block level than SPF values in parturients receiving spinal anesthesia.

The aim of this study is to compare the stability and implant stresses of suprapectineal plate with infrapectineal plate in three subconfigurations of the screw types. ⋯ The infrapectineal unlocked plate supplies the most stable fixation with the least implant stress, contrary to the suprapectineal unlocked plate, which has the lowest stability and highest implant stresses.

We investigated the association of three IL-10 promoter single-nucleotide polymorphisms and altered IL-10 plasma levels with the risk of head and neck cancer (HNC). ⋯ Our results demonstrate that IL-10-1082, IL-10-819, and IL-10-592 variants, and haplotypes GC and GT constitute biomarkers for early detection of HNC, especially NPC subtype. IL-10 -819T/C and TA haplotype may be used as biomarkers for early detection of LC.

Results show that oxidative stress is a pathophysiologic factor for alopecia areata (AA); however, the markers used can be confounding. Thus, we aimed to investigate the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of AA through an evaluation of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA); other markers of the oxidant/antioxidant system, such as SOD, CAT, GSH-ST, and MDA; and contributing clinical risk factors. ⋯ Long-lasting disease, male sex, >1 site of involvement of disease, and increased severity of disease were correlated with increased oxidation. Presence of AA, male sex, and severe disease were determined to be independent risk factors for antioxidant and oxidant systems. IMA has great potential as a biomarker of oxidative stress in AA when compared to other studied biomarkers.
