The severity of disease outcome in dyspepsia has been attributed to Helicobacter pylori virulence genes. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of H. pylori virulence genes (cagA, babA2, and dupA) and to determine whether or not there arises a significant correlation with clinical dyspepsia outcomes. ⋯ The lower prevalence of these genes and variations among different ethnicities implies that the strains are geographically and ethnically dependent. None of the virulence genes were knowingly beneficial in predicting the clinical outcome of H. pylori infection in our subjects.

The connection between MCI and Alzheimer disease: neurocognitive clues.
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is defined as a pathological stage between 'healthy aging' and 'dementia' In this study, cases of MCI were compared with early-stage Alzheimer disease (AD) and age-related cognitive decline (ARCD) in terms of cognitive profiles in order to find a connection between MCI and AD. ⋯ During the follow-up period of ARCD, impairment in orientation, complex attention, and long-term memory should suggest the diagnosis of MCI. When personal information and executive functions are affected in MCI, AD should be carefully considered.

Studies suggest that trace elements may have an adverse impact on male reproduction, even at low levels. We tried to investigate the relationships between these metals and semen quality in various body fluids among men with infertility. ⋯ In the present study, we found significant correlations between concentrations of Zn, Ca, Al, Cu, Mg, Se, and Sr and semen parameters in various body fluids.

VKORC1 and CYP2C9 genetic polymorphisms may not accurately predict warfarin dose requirements. We evaluated an existing warfarin dosing algorithm developed for Malaysian patients that was based only on VKORC1 and CYP2C9 genes. ⋯ Multiple clinical factors can significantly change the actual required dose from the predicted dose from time to time. The additions of other dynamic variables, especially INR, VKD clotting factors, and concomitant drug use, into the dosing model are important in order to improve its accuracy.

Radiotherapy is required to overcome pain and to promote recalcification in multiple myeloma (MM) patients. The aim of our prospective study was to evaluate the impact of one fraction of 8 Gy regimen in palliative treatment of MM. ⋯ One fraction of 8 Gy regimen is effective in palliative treatment of MM patients with painful bone destructions.
