Human alveolar epithelial cells play a critical role in the pathogenesis of lung diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the contribution of beraprost sodium, a prostaglandin I2 (PGI2) analogue, to inflammatory and oxidative events in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in airway epithelial cells. ⋯ These findings suggest that beraprost sodium will provide a pivotal molecular basis for the design of new therapeutic strategies to cure endotoxin-induced lung injury, although additional comprehensive studies are still required.

Dermatologic findings differ among countries but no sufficient data about Turkish HIV-infected patients exist in the literature. Therefore, our aim in this study was to document the dermatologic manifestations and their relationships with CD4 cell counts among HIV/AIDS patients visiting our clinic for the first time in Istanbul, Turkey. ⋯ Dermatologic manifestations in this study were identical to those described in most studies from Asia, and there were more manifestations as the HIV infection progressed and immune functions declined.

Malnutrition is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). In this study, we aimed to screen for malnutrition and geriatric syndromes and seek their associations in patients with AD. ⋯ Dependency, inadequate fluid intake, advanced dementia stage, and female sex were independently associated with malnutrition. Malnutrition also seemed to be associated with sleep disturbances, psychological problems, immobility, falls, and increased hospitalization risk in these patients. Daily oral fluid intake may be a practical tool in the screening of malnutrition.

Therefore, serum vitamin D, zinc, and iron levels should be checked in all children diagnosed with celiac disease.

To evaluate the efficacy of entecavir (ETV) among chronic hepatitis B (CHB) nucleos(t)ide-naive and -experienced patients in clinical practice. ⋯ ETV has greater efficacy in NA-naïve patients and in NA-experienced patients without prior LAM resistance. The rate of VR achievement at 12 months was higher in patients who initially had a low viral load with ETV treatment.
