By applying humanin (HN) before myocardial infarction (MI), its protection in myocardial injury and the possible roles of its cellular mechanism in the Notch pathway were investigated. ⋯ HN administration before MI has a cardioprotective effect on rats via the Notch signaling pathway.

Surfactant is a surface-active substance that, in addition to its detergent effect, also has effects that reduce inflammation and fibrosis. Because of these effects, it was aimed herein to investigate the effect of intraperitoneal surfactant application on preventing postoperative peritoneal adhesion formation in a uterine horn adhesion model. ⋯ Intraperitoneal surfactant administration at a dose of 70 mg/kg was found to be effective in preventing intraabdominal adhesion formation in a rat uterine horn model.

Neuropathic pain (NP) is a type of chronic pain usually caused by damage to the somatosensory system. Bioactive antioxidant compounds, such as curcumin and ginger, are widely preferred in the treatment of NP. However, the ingredient-based mechanism that underlies their pain-relieving activity remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of trans-[6]-Shogaol and [6]-Gingerol active ingredients of the Zingiber officinale Roscoe extract on the spinal cord and cortex in the neuroinflammatory pathway in rats with experimental sciatic nerve injury. ⋯ In this study, ginger treatment was shown to have a therapeutic effect on neuroinflammation against sciatic nerve damage.

Propofol is a positive allosteric modulator of GABAA receptor (GABAAR) and has potent antioxidant activity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of propofol on damage to the cerebral cortex and hippocampus in a lithium chloride (LiCl)-pilocarpine animal model of status epilepticus (SE). ⋯ Propofol treatment protected against SE-induced tissue injury in the cortex and hippocampus of rats. This was due at least in part to its antioxidant activity and to its induction of GABAAR α1 subunit expression in the brain.

A significant cause of mortality and morbidity in the neonatal era is hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). This study examined the histopathological analysis and neuroprotective impact of syringin (SYR) in an experimental HIE rat model. ⋯ SYR reduced apoptosis, perivascular and pericellular edema, and neuronal degeneration in rat cerebral tissue. These results raise the possibility that SYR may have a neuroprotective effect on the harm brought on by HIE. This is the first investigation of SYR's function within the HIE paradigm.
