Management of recurrent hemoptysis: a single-center experience.
A successful planning methodology for patients with hemoptysis promises overall improvement in patient care. Conducted in a reference center for chest diseases, the present study aims to analyze characteristics and predictors of interventional methods in patients with recurrent hemoptysis. ⋯ In conclusion, patients with certain diseases may experience frequent hospital admissions due to hemoptysis. Recurrent admissions may get better results with BAE and rigid bronchoscopy. We think that these procedures should be preferred in the foreground of suitable patient selection in line with available facilities and experience.

Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) can in vivo characterize tumor microvascular environment. The aim of the present study was to reveal the DCE-MRI findings and to determine the correlation between these findings and immunohistochemical data in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). ⋯ DCE-MRI could successfully differentiate tumor tissue in HNSCC. Furthermore, it was observed that DCE-MRI had the potential to reveal certain immunohistochemical information in vivo.

Hypertension is a known risk factor for developing atrial fibrillation. However, there is limited data to investigate the association between morning blood pressure surge (MBPS) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). We conducted the present study to determine whether there is a relationship between asymptomatic PAF and MBPS and whether MBPS may be a predictor of asymptomatic PAF episodes. ⋯ Patients who had larger MBPS were observed to have higher PAF incidence. MBPS values may be sensitive in predicting asymptomatic episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Could lactate clearance be a marker of mortality in pediatric intensive care unit?
Hyperlactatemia is a common finding in critically ill patients and has significant prognostic implications. However, a single lactate measurement has not been correlated to mortality consistently. In this study, we aimed to correlate the clinical efficacy of lactate clearance for the prediction of mortality in pediatric intensive care unit patients. ⋯ The present study revealed that lactate clearance is a simple and rapid risk-stratification tool holding to be a potential biomarker of managing the treatment efficacy of children in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Our study investigated the susceptibility rate of ceftazidime-avibactam and the risk factors associated with its resistance by analyzing gram-negative bacteria isolated from various patient samples. ⋯ The resistance rate of ceftazidime-avibactam was found to be 8.6%, and it was thought that resistant strains produced metallo-ß-lactamase (MBL) type carbapenemase. Risk factors were female gender, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, MDR, PDR, and admission to ICU. Therefore, studying the ceftazidime-avibactam susceptibility test together with gram-negative bacteria identification, especially in groups at risk for resistance, is one of the important factors that can positively affect the success of treatment.
