Dapagliflozin (DAPA), sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, is an insulin-independent antidiabetic drug used to control hyperglycaemia by promoting glucose excretion from the kidney. Its adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension, dehydration and urinary tract and genital infections caused by glycosuria. DAPA is subjected to constant additional monitoring, as drugrelated adverse reactions are frequently updated in line with the results of case studies, clinical trials and in vivo studies. Some antidiabetic drugs have shown potential harmful effects on the male reproductive system; however, the effects of DAPA have not been sufficiently studied in this capacity. Aiming to fill this gap in the literature, the present work investigates the toxic effects of DAPA on the male reproductive system. ⋯ Even if DAPA is found to have antioxidant effects, it may raise abnormal sperm counts through a mechanism completely independent of these effects and thus may not have a significant toxic effect on the male reproductive system.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) shares some clinical features with new-onset granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) or GPA flare that may lead to a challenge in differential diagnosis. To date, little is known whether GPA can be induced by COVID-19. Herein, we aimed to seek the frequency and mortality rates of COVID-19 in our GPA cohort, and along with the literature cases, to evaluate clinical features and treatments of GPA patients with COVID-19. We also tried to identify clinical features of COVID-19 induced GPA. ⋯ In our GPA cohort, we observed a higher mortality rate compared to global WHO data. In patients followed up with GPA, rituximab treatment may be precarious for both COVID-19 disease and reinfection. Our study also provided some clues about the diagnostic challenge of GPA induced by COVID-19.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large vessel vasculitis that may cause significant morbidity in the elderly population. We aimed to evaluate presentation characteristics, treatment, and outcome in a cohort of patients with GCA diagnosed and followed in a single center. ⋯ Treatment of GCA is challenging. GCA causes serious morbidities and increased mortality. PET/CT is highly effective in detecting large vessel vasculitis in GCA and could perhaps replace TAB in the future.

Examination of diaphragm thickness, mobility and thickening fraction in individuals with COPD of different severity.
Diaphragm thickness and mobility assessed by ultrasound in individuals with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) reflect the function of the diaphragm. The aim of this study is to compare the diaphragm thickness, mobility, and thickening fraction in individuals with COPD of different severity and healthy individuals and examine the relationship between these parameters and pulmonary function test parameters. ⋯ Diaphragm ultrasound parameters decrease as disease severity increases in individuals with COPD. We think that adding diaphragm ultrasound parameters together with pulmonary function test to the evaluation of individuals with COPD will provide additional contributions to determining the course of the disease.

This study aims to analyze the real-life data of patients who were prescribed rivaroxaban and apixaban and to emphasize the points that we think will make a difference compared to randomized controlled studies. ⋯ Stroke rates were found to be higher and to have similar bleeding rates compared to major clinical studies in our real-life analysis. However, high ischemic cerebrovascular event and low nonmajor bleeding rates are remarkable in low dose use of rivaroxaban. It is clear that there is a need to consider existing dose reduction criteria in terms of correct prescribing.
