To analyze the frequency of neurologic events during commercial airline flights and to assess whether onboard emergency medical kits are adequate for in-flight neurologic emergencies. ⋯ Neurologic symptoms are the most common medical complaint requiring air-to-ground medical support and are second only to cardiovascular problems for emergency diversions and their resultant costs to the US airline industry. Adding antiepileptic drugs to the onboard medical kit and greater emergency medical training for in-flight personnel could potentially reduce the number of diversions for in-flight neurologic incidents.

Efficacy of oral ketoprofen in acute migraine: a double-blind randomized clinical trial.
Certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective in the acute treatment of migraine attacks. The authors report a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized cross-over trial of a dual-release formulation of oral ketoprofen in the acute treatment of migraine attacks. ⋯ Oral ketoprofen (75 mg or 150 mg) in a dual-release formulation is an effective and well-tolerated drug in the acute treatment of migraine attacks.

HARP (hypoprebetalipoproteinemia, acanthocytosis, retinitis pigmentosa, and pallidal degeneration) is a rare syndrome with many clinical similarities to pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN, formerly Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome). Despite these common features, lipoprotein abnormalities have not been reported in PKAN. After the recent discovery of the genetic defect in PKAN, we report a homozygous nonsense mutation in exon 5 of the PANK2 gene that creates a stop codon at amino acid 371 (R371X) in the original HARP patient. This finding establishes that HARP is part of the PKAN disease spectrum.
