Sevoflurane is epileptogenic in healthy subjects at surgical levels of anesthesia.
To investigate EEG effects of three escalating concentrations of sevoflurane and propofol in single-agent anesthesia on healthy subjects. ⋯ Sevoflurane consistently produces epileptiform discharges and is dose dependently epileptogenic at surgical levels of anesthesia.

In a cohort of 337 patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), we investigated the relationship between blood glucose levels, baseline characteristics, and outcome by means of Student's t-test and multivariate logistic regression. The mean glucose levels on admission and from day 1 to 10 were significantly higher in patients with poor condition on admission and in patients with poor outcome. In a multivariate analysis, glucose level on admission was not an independent predictor of outcome. Hyperglycemia may be a link in the association between poor condition on admission and poor outcome.

Proton MRS reveals frontal lobe metabolite abnormalities in idiopathic generalized epilepsy.
To assess gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) plus homocarnosine (GABA+) and glutamate plus glutamine (GLX) concentrations in the frontal lobes of patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). ⋯ IGE was associated with bilateral frontal lobe metabolite changes. Elevation in GLX was observed, which may imply increased neuronal excitability, whereas reduction in NAAt suggests reduced overall neuronal numbers or neuronal dysfunction.

Botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) is used to treat neurologic disorders associated with increased muscle tone. Its use is often associated with pain relief. ⋯ The results suggest that pain reduction after BTXA treatment is mediated through its effect on muscle tone rather than a direct analgesic effect.
