To use magnetoencephalography to assess possible cortical reorganization in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) of patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). ⋯ This study showed reorganization of the S1 cortex contralateral to the CRPS affected side. The reorganization appeared to be linked to complaints of neuropathic pain.

Central pain following spinal cord injury (SCI) is common and thought to be related to lesion of the spinothalamic pathways. ⋯ Consistent with animal models of SCI, spinothalamic tract lesion together with neuronal hyperexcitability due to lesion of inhibitory interneurons at the rostral end of injury are hypothesized to lead to central pain.

Acute basilar artery occlusion has a mortality rate approaching 90%. The authors describe a case of acute basilar artery occlusion managed successfully with endovascular embolectomy. ⋯ The dissection was managed with endovascular stenting, and the basilar artery embolus was removed with a clot retriever at 7 hours. The patient recovered without neurologic deficit.

Epidemiologic data for multiple sclerosis (MS) in Olmsted County, MN, have been recorded for almost 100 years and have indicated that the increasing prevalence rate was likely due in part to an increasing incidence rate. ⋯ After age and sex adjustment to a common population, these prevalence and incidence rates of MS appear to have been stable rather than increasing over the past 20 years.
