Domestic violence is a major public health problem requiring committed, coordinated community response. 2. ⋯ EMS personnel play a frontline role in the critical response and prevention of domestic violence. 4. EMS education and training are requisite for safe, effective responses to domestic violence in rural communities.

Psychiatric nurses frequently are targets of assault by their clients. 2. ⋯ An interaction of individual, social-psychological, interpersonal, situational, and sociocultural factors lead to increased rates of workplace assaults by clients. 4. Nursing staff need to take an active role in preventing violent episodes from occurring.
