To assess risk factors for unplanned readmission following open and minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (PN). ⋯ Patients developing high grade complications are at increased risk of subsequent unplanned readmission. These patients who develop significant in-hospital complications may benefit from increased post-discharge contact with healthcare providers and from preoperative counseling regarding their risk of unplanned readmission.

To identify a cohort of chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) patients who considered their symptoms completely resolved and analyze their demographics, clinical phenotype, treatments and NIH-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (CPSI) scores. ⋯ Many men with CPPS can reach a subjective cure, however, the majority do not reach a CPSI score of 0. This group of "cured" patients is similar to our typical tertiary referral cohort in terms of age and phenotype but differs in having slightly lower pre-treatment CPSI scores.

Blunt abdominal trauma can result in injury to genitourinary (GU) organs. Children may be more susceptible to some GU injuries due to anatomic differences compared to adults. Mechanism of injury (MOI) has been thought to relate to both the likelihood and severity of GU injury in children, although this has not definitively been proven. Our purpose was to determine if MOI has any correlation to the severity of GU injury in children treated at our institution. ⋯ Although specific MOI would seem to relate to presence and severity of injury in children, MOI alone does not correlate with the severity of GU organ injury in our pediatric trauma population. Age of pediatric patients is associated with the type of MOI that results in GU organ injury. The possibility of GU injury should be considered in all symptomatic pediatric patients with clinically significant blunt trauma regardless of the exact MOI.

We examine the incidence and predictors of readmission after major urologic cancer surgery using a national, prospective-maintained database specifically developed to assess quality of surgical care. ⋯ Several patient characteristics have a significant impact on the risk of 30 day readmission after major urologic cancer surgery. Our data suggests that improving prevention and management of complications during the index hospitalization may lead to a substantial decrease in readmission rates.

A decline in semen quality in men with increasing percentage of male factor abnormalities in infertile couples has been reported. The pattern of abnormalities differs from one part of the world to another, and it is probably multifactorial. Our objectives were to review the pattern of semen fluid abnormalities in Saudi male partners of infertile couples, to establish prevalence and help future identification of responsible etiologies and possible treatments. ⋯ A high percentage of semen fluid and sperm morphology abnormalities were found in males of infertile couples in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia which may contribute to subfertility. Further studies are needed to address possible etiologies and treatment of oligospermia and teratospermia in our region in order to improve fertility rates.
