Proton therapy (PT) for prostate cancer is an expensive treatment with limited evidence of benefit over conventional radiotherapy. We sought to study whether online information on PT for prostate cancer was balanced and whether the website source influenced the content presented. ⋯ Patients should be aware that online information regarding PT for prostate cancer may represent marketing by proton centers rather than comprehensive and unbiased patient education. An awareness of these results will also better prepare clinicians to address the potential biases of patients with prostate cancer who search the Internet for health information.

Robot-assisted surgery (RAS) has been integrated into the surgical armamentarium and generated wide-spread interest among practicing, non-robotic surgeons (NRS). While methods for training novice non-robotic surgeons have emerged, the effectiveness of these training programs has endured minimal scrutiny. This study aims to establish effectiveness of the RAST training program. ⋯ A dedicated surgical training program focused on learning key steps of RAS enabled most participants to successfully incorporate and maintain their RAS skills in clinical practice.

A search of the literature finds that there have been many case reports documenting a wide array of objects found within the bladder, ranging from magnets and paper clips to telephone and aluminum wire. The goal of treatment is to remove the object quickly, using the least invasive method possible. Therefore, the ideal treatment is removal through endoscopic means; however, in some cases, the size, mobility and shape of the foreign body can prevent its removal endoscopically and more invasive means must be employed. We present a case of a patient who inserted 150 magnetic spherical beads into his bladder.

Morbidity and mortality of octogenarians following open radical cystectomy using a standardized reporting system.
Recent evidence suggests that radical cystectomy may be underutilized in elderly patients, despite literature supporting acceptable morbidity/mortality in this population. However, there is a paucity of literature reporting complications in a standardized manner. Therefore, we evaluated the morbidity and mortality of octogenarians treated with radical cystectomy using the modified Clavien complication reporting system. ⋯ Radical cystectomy is a morbid procedure regardless of patient age. Age alone should not preclude radical cystectomy in the elderly.

Two prospective trials have demonstrated prophylactic antimuscarinics following prostatectomy reduce pain from bladder spasms. Our practice adopted the routine administration of prophylactic belladonna and opium (B&O) suppositories to patients undergoing robotic assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP). The aim of this study is to determine if this change in clinical practice was associated with improvement of postoperative outcomes. ⋯ The introduction of prophylactic B&O suppositories at the immediate conclusion of RALP surgery was not associated with improvements of the postoperative course.
