Case ReportsEczema herpeticum in pregnancy and neonatal herpes infection.
Eczema herpeticum is caused by herpes simplex infection of atopic dermatitis. The infection typically causes a vesiculopustular rash, but can disseminate and be life threatening. ⋯ Early diagnosis and treatment of eczema herpeticum is necessary to prevent poor outcomes in pregnancy. Prophylactic acyclovir may help prevent eczema herpeticum in pregnancy.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a cardiac condition associated with the acute onset of chest pain, abnormalities in cardiac enzymes and electrocardiogram, and a distinct pattern of left ventricular dysfunction on echocardiography. This case evaluates an obstetric patient diagnosed with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy during her 23rd week of pregnancy. ⋯ Although uncommon, physicians who manage cardiac complications should be familiar with the diagnosis and management of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

The accuracy of predicting parity as a prerequisite for cesarean delivery on maternal request.
The National Institutes of Health and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists consensus guidelines state that cesarean delivery on maternal request is not recommended for women desiring several children. We sought to estimate the accuracy with which women were able to predict their final parity. ⋯ At the time of first pregnancy, many women underestimate their final parity. This raises questions about making an estimate of parity a consideration for offering cesarean delivery on maternal request.

Case ReportsMultivalvular bacterial endocarditis after suction curettage abortion.
Bacterial endocarditis is a potentially life-threatening disease associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It is estimated that one patient per 1 million will develop endocarditis after elective abortion. ⋯ Although rare, it is possible to develop multivalvular, right-sided and left-sided endocarditis after elective pregnancy termination in a patient without preexisting cardiac disease. This patient should have received antibiotic prophylaxis before initiation of the suction curettage.

Case ReportsPudendal neuropathy involving the perforating cutaneous nerve after cystocele repair with graft.
Pudendal neuropathy is a documented complication of sacrospinous ligament fixation, but it is infrequently reported with other types of gynecologic surgery. ⋯ Pudendal nerve entrapment is one potential complication of anterior vaginal repair with biologic graft. Removal of sutures, even long after surgery, can result in clinically significant improvement in pain symptoms and sexual function in patients with pudendal nerve entrapment.
