Case ReportsGroup a Streptococcus causing necrotizing fasciitis and toxic shock syndrome after medical termination of pregnancy.
Group A Streptococcus is an aerobic gram-positive bacteria known to cause cutaneous infections. Invasive infections can lead to toxic shock syndrome with multiorgan failure and mortality rates of 25-48%. ⋯ This case demonstrates the need for prompt recognition and treatment of necrotizing fasciitis/toxic shock syndrome.

Case ReportsComplications due to transfusion-related acute lung injury.
Transfusion-related acute lung injury is an underdiagnosed and potentially lethal complication of blood transfusion. ⋯ Although transfusion-related acute lung injury is usually self-limiting and most patients will recover spontaneously, the estimated mortality rate of 5-25% warrants prompt identification and adequate action.
