Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialQuantitative sensory testing in vulvodynia patients and increased peripheral pressure pain sensitivity.
To assess both regional (vulvar) and overall (generalized) pain sensitivity in women with vulvodynia to determine whether both are increased, suggestive of altered central pain processing. ⋯ Women with vulvodynia displayed significantly increased pressure pain sensitivity in both the vulvar region and in peripheral body regions, suggesting a "central" component to the mechanisms mediating this disorder. Both the novel vulvodolorimeter and the thumb pressure stimulator may assist in future experimental tests of this and related hypotheses.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialVaginal misoprostol versus concentrated oxytocin and vaginal PGE2 for second-trimester labor induction.
To compare the efficacy, side effects, and complications of high-dose vaginal misoprostol with concentrated intravenous oxytocin plus low-dose vaginal prostaglandin (PGE(2)) for second-trimester labor induction. ⋯ Compared with concentrated oxytocin plus low-dose vaginal PGE(2), high-dose vaginal misoprostol is associated with significantly shorter induction-to-delivery intervals, fewer side effects, a lower incidence of retained placenta, and comparable incidence of live birth.

Undiagnosed asymptomatic hypoglycemia: diet, insulin, and glyburide for gestational diabetic pregnancy.
The role of maternal hypoglycemia during pregnancy has not yet been established. We sought to estimate the prevalence of undiagnosed, asymptomatic hypoglycemic events that occur in diabetic patients. ⋯ Our data suggest that asymptomatic hypoglycemic events are common during pharmacological treatment in gestational diabetic pregnancies. We speculate that this finding may be explained by treatment modality rather than by the disease itself.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialThe use of intrauterine lidocaine to minimize pain during hysterosalpingography: a randomized trial.
A hysterosalpingogram is an integral part of the evaluation of infertility but is often painful. Intrauterine anesthesia may help to alleviate the discomfort associated with this procedure. ⋯ I
