Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialTopical lidocaine-prilocaine versus lidocaine for neonatal circumcision: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate epicutaneous application of 5% lidocaine-prilocaine and 30% lidocaine cream anesthetics for neonatal circumcision. ⋯ Epicutaneous 5% lidocaine-prilocaine was more effective than 30% lidocaine for neonatal circumcision, better reducing neonatal stress indicators. Lidocaine-prilocaine significantly shortened crying time during one of the most painful phases of circumcision. Both topical anesthetics were more effective than placebo in attenuating the behavioral and physiologic indicators of neonatal pain.

Case ReportsNeurocysticercosis in pregnancy: a case initially diagnosed as eclampsia.
Neurocysticercosis is an infection of the central nervous system with the pork tapeworm's cysticercus. ⋯ Neurocysticercosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pregnant patients with coma and/or seizures, especially if the patient has emigrated from or traveled to an endemic area. Albendazole, with shunt procedure, is the treatment of choice for intraventricular neurocysticercosis.

Risk scoring, fetal fibronectin, and bacterial vaginosis to predict preterm delivery.
To determine the value of markers for predicting spontaneous preterm birth. ⋯ The combination of preterm birth-risk score and vaginal fetal fibronectin FDC-6 predicted spontaneous preterm birth. Intervention trials are required to determine whether a combination of screening tests will reduce rates of spontaneous preterm birth.

To identify risk factors associated with brachial plexus injury in a large population. ⋯ In macrosomic newborns, shoulder dystocia was associated with brachial plexus injury, but in low- and normal-weight infants, "other malpresentation" was diagnosed more frequently than shoulder dystocia. Our study findings suggest that brachial plexus injury has causes in addition to shoulder dystocia and might result from an abnormality during the antepartum or intrapartum period.

To identify the effect of spinal anesthesia on the success rate of external cephalic version after 36 weeks' gestation. ⋯ Spinal anesthesia does not increase the external cephalic version success rate in singleton pregnancies with breech presentations after 36 weeks' gestation.
