Impact of Resistance Training in Subjects With COPD: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of resistance training on subjects with COPD. ⋯ Resistance training can be successfully performed alone or in conjunction with endurance training without increased adverse events during pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD.

Endotracheal Tube Seal and Suction Performance in a Novel Biorealistic Tracheal Model.
Endotracheal tube (ETT) cuffs create a seal to protect against secretion entry to the lungs. Cuff inflation currently is recommended at 20-30 cm H2O pressure. ETT designs have variable seal performance in bench studies using rigid tracheal models lacking the dynamic characteristics of the human trachea. We compared ETT designs within a new, biorealistic tracheal model to assess cuff and suction performance in the setting of a compliant trachea. ⋯ Within a novel model with normal trachea compliance, we found all ETT designs tested to seal at lower than current recommended cuff pressures.

A low serum vitamin D level may represent a marker of other perplexing factors that may lead to increased asthma prevalence and severity. Our aim was to assess the correlation between vitamin D levels and asthma and allergy markers in a subgroup of children with fewer confounding factors. ⋯ In our group of children with asthma, no correlation was found between the level of vitamin D and the degree of airway reactivity, airway inflammation, and allergy. The cause-and-effect relationship between vitamin D, asthma, and allergy should be further clarified. (ClinicalTrials.gov registration NCT01287455).
