This papers presents a number of views on men and women and how they react to one another. Very little attention is given to discussing gender issues within nurse education, despite the fact that understanding gender perspectives would have a great impact on nursing care. As the majority of nurses are women and offer a different perspective on life from men, the authors find this issue needs to be addressed at pre- and post-registration levels.

Breast awareness is a subject which has raised considerable debate and controversy in the last few years. At all levels, from the Department of Health down through the ranks of health professionals to the female population of Great Britain, the subject continues to be debated. ⋯ One in 12 women in Great Britain will develop breast cancer and the issue is one for all women. Basic advice for women in the high-risk categories is essential and screening needs to be encouraged, the author finds.
