Multicenter Study Observational StudyThe impact of body mass index on severity, patterns and outcomes after traumatic brain injuries caused by low level falls.
Low level falls are a common cause of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and are associated with significant mortality and disability. The aim of this study was to analyse whether BMI, height and weight of patients were related to severity, patterns and outcomes of TBI caused by low level falls. ⋯ We found no associations between BMI and severity or outcome of TBI caused by low level falls. More detailed data and further studies are needed to fully elucidate these complex relationships.

Subtalar joint instability may frequently be overlooked and erroneously be integrated under the diagnosis of ankle joint instability. It was the scope of this review to characterize the present state-of-art with regard to the adequate diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ Subtalar joint arthroscopy for reconfirmation of the correct diagnosis conjoined with restoration of physiological hindfoot alignment and a preferably anatomical ligamentous reconstruction provide the basis for a good functional recovery.

Injuries of the ankle joint have a high incidence in daily life and sports, thus, playing an important socioeconomic role. Therefore, proper diagnosis and adequate treatment are mandatory. While most of the ligament injuries around the ankle joint are treated conservatively, great controversy exists on how to treat deltoid ligament injuries in ankle fractures. Missed injuries and inadequate treatment of the medial ankle lead to inferior outcome with instability, progressive deformity, and ankle joint osteoarthritis.

Comparative StudyWhen do anterior external or internal fixators provide additional stability in an unstable (Tile C) pelvic fracture? A biomechanical study.
This study aimed at evaluating the additional stability that is provided by anterior external and internal fixators in an unstable pelvic fracture model (OTA 61-C). ⋯ In this model of an unstable pelvic fracture (OTA 61-C), anterior fixation with an In-Fix was biomechanically superior to an anterior Ex-Fix in the setting of single-level posterior fixation. There was no biomechanical difference between the In-Fix and Ex-Fix when each was combined with two levels of posterior sacral fixation.

Decreased muscle strength is associated with impaired long-term functional outcome after intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fracture.
To examine the long-term outcome after intramedullary nailing of femoral diaphysial fractures measured as disease-specific patient reported function, walking ability, muscle strength, pain and quality of life (QOL). ⋯ This study showed that decreased muscle strength for knee flexion, knee extension and hip abduction was associated with worse long-term functional outcome measured with a disease-specific questionnaire (HOOS) after intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fracture.
