The long-term outcome after treatment for patients with tibial fracture treated with intramedullary nailing is not influenced by time of day of surgery and surgeon experience.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between clinical outcome and time of day of surgery and experience level of the surgeon. Secondly, we examined the relationship between the length of hospital stay and the time of day of surgery. ⋯ Complication rates and KOOS outcome after surgery with intramedullary nailing were not influenced by time of day of surgery and experience level of the surgeon. The lengths of hospital stay increase significantly when surgery is performed at night by trainee surgeons, but not when performed by trauma surgeons.

There is limited data on the trauma load caused by indoor skiing centers. Therefore, all patients treated at the accident and emergency department of our level I trauma center who sustained injuries at the world's largest indoor skiing center were analyzed during a 3-year period. ⋯ IV.

Clinical DRUJ instability does not influence the long-term functional outcome of conservatively treated distal radius fractures.
The presence of distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability remains often unnoticed initially, but may worsen functional outcome of distal radius fractures (DRF). The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of concurring clinical DRUJ instability on the outcome of conservatively treated DRF. ⋯ The presence of clinical DRUJ instability does not seem to affect functional outcome of conservatively treated distal radius fractures at long-term follow-up.

Because spinal cord injuries can have fatal consequences for injured race car drivers, prehospital treatment of spinal injuries is a major concern in motor sports. A structured procedure for assessing trauma patients and their treatment should follow established ABCDE principles. Only then, a stable patient could be further examined and appropriate measures can be undertaken. ⋯ Even in motor sports, where specific safety systems that offer spinal protection are present, the indications for spinal immobilization need to be carefully considered rather than being blindly adopted as a matter of course. The aim of this article is to use recent literature to present an overview about the treatment of spinal injuries in motor sports. Further, we present a new protocol for indications for immobilizing the spine in motor sports that is based on the ABCDE principles and takes into account the condition of the patient.
