Patients with complex proximal tibial fractures overestimate the prognosis of their injury.
To investigate, if patients with complex proximal tibial fracture have realistic expectations on open reduction and internal fixation. ⋯ IV.

Effectiveness of surgical fixation for rib fractures in relation to its timing: a retrospective Japanese nationwide study.
The effectiveness of surgical rib fixation is currently controversial, partly because of differences in timing. We used a Japanese nationwide database to investigate the effectiveness of surgical rib fixation in relation to its timing. ⋯ Early surgical rib fixation was associated with better in-hospital outcomes, whereas later surgical rib fixation was not.

The impact of frailty on trauma outcomes using the Clinical Frailty Scale.
Population ageing is a worldwide phenomenon; thanks to improvements in medical care and living standards. The Office of National Statistics in the UK predicts that the fastest growing age group in coming decades will be those over 85 years. This is reflected in Trauma Audit and Research Network data, which has highlighted a shift in caseload from a majority of young males to elderly patients at UK Major Trauma Centres (MTC). This study of elderly trauma patients admitted to a UK MTC reviews the links between frailty, using the Canadian Study of Health and Aging Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS), and outcomes from trauma. ⋯ Level III, prognostic and epidemiological.

Poller (blocking) screw with intramedullary femoral nailing for subtrochanteric femoral non-unions: clinical outcome and review of concepts.
Surgery to treat nonunion resulted from malalignment is challenging since correction and bone union should be achieved simultaneously. To report the clinical outcomes achieved through reconstruction of sub-trochanteric femoral fractures by femoral nailing using a poller screw and to review the current concepts. ⋯ Correction with blocking screws and rigid fixation with intramedullary nailing to treat sub-trochanteric-non-union-caused malalignment can yield good clinical and radiological outcomes.

The prevalence of dental injuries (DI) in polytrauma patients is unknown. The purpose of our study was to identify the frequency of dental injuries on whole body CTs acquired in a trauma setting and to estimate how often they are correctly reported by the radiologist. ⋯ DI had a high occurrence in polytrauma patients. A high frequency of underreported dental trauma findings was identified. Radiologists reporting whole-body trauma CT should be aware of possible dental trauma to report the findings adequately.
