Assessing lower extremity loading during activities of daily living using continuous-scale physical functional performance 10 and wireless sensor insoles: a comparative study between younger and older adults.
This study aims to investigate the lower extremity loading during activities of daily living (ADLs) using the Continuous Scale of Physical Functional Performance (CS-PFP 10) test and wireless sensor insoles in healthy volunteers. ⋯ The use of wireless sensor insoles in a laboratory setting can effectively measure the load on the lower extremities during ADLs. These findings could offer valuable insights for developing tailored recommendations for patients with partial weight-bearing restrictions.

ReviewReducing the incidence and mortality of traumatic brain injury in Latin America.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) represents a considerable portion of the global injury burden. The incidence of TBI will continue to increase in view of an increase in population density, an aging population, and the increased use of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles. The most common causes of TBI are falls and road traffic injuries. ⋯ Data from HIC indicates that road traffic injuries can be successfully prevented through concerted efforts at the national level, with coordinated and multisector responses to the problem. Such actions require implementation of proven measures to address the safety of road users and the vehicles themselves, road infrastructure, and post-crash care. In this review, we focus on the epidemiology of TBI in Latin America and the implementation of solutions and preventive measures to decrease mortality and long-term disability.

Clinical TrialPlain X-ray is insufficient for correct diagnosis of tibial shaft spiral fractures: a prospective trial.
Tibial shaft spiral fractures and fractures of the distal third of the tibia (AO:42A/B/C and 43A) frequently occur with non-displaced posterior malleolus fractures (PM). This study investigated the hypothesis that plain X-ray is not sufficient for a reliable diagnosis of associated non-displaced PM fractures in tibial shaft spiral fractures. ⋯ DRKS00030075.

Adverse outcomes following pelvic fracture: the critical role of frailty.
Pelvic fractures among older adults are associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes, with frailty likely being a contributing factor. The current study endeavors to describe the association between frailty, measured using the Orthopedic Frailty Score (OFS), and adverse outcomes in geriatric pelvic fracture patients. ⋯ Frail pelvic fracture patients suffer from a disproportionately increased risk of mortality, complications, failure-to-rescue, and ICU admission. Additional measures are required to mitigate adverse events in this vulnerable patient population.

Clinical analysis of accelerated rehabilitation surgery for Gustilo type IIIA/B open tibio fibular fracture.
To investigate the clinical efficacy of accelerated rehabilitation surgery for the treatment of Gustilo type IIIA/B open tibiofibular fracture with emergency stage I debridement, internal fracture fixation, bone grafting, coverage of the wound surface with a muscle flap combined with vacuum sealing drainage (VSD), and internal and lateral leg reduction. ⋯ For Gustilo type IIIA/B open tibiofibular fractures, emergency stage I debridement, internal fixation of the fracture, bone grafting, coverage of the wound with a muscle flap, complete tensioning of the calf inside and outside, and application of VSD can improve the repair of leg soft-tissue defects, shorten hospitalization time, promote fracture healing, and effectively reduce infection and complications related to bone exposure. More importantly, this treatment protocol provides effective wound repair, guarantees the recovery of limb function, significantly speeds up recovery, and improve patients' quality of life.
