The predictive value of four traumatic hemorrhage scores for early massive blood transfusion in trauma patients in the pre-hospital setting.
We aimed to explore the predictive value of four traumatic hemorrhage scores for early massive blood transfusion in trauma patients in the pre-hospital setting. ⋯ All four pre-hospital trauma hemorrhage scores have a high predictive value in assessing massive blood transfusion in trauma patients.

Characteristics and demography of low energy fall injuries in patients > 60 years of age: a population-based analysis over a decade with focus on undertriage.
An increasing group of elderly patients is admitted after low energy falls. Several studies have shown that this patient group tends to be severely injured and is often undertriaged. ⋯ Patients aged > 60 years with low energy falls are dominated by head injuries, and the 30-day mortality is 13%. Patients with major trauma are undertriaged in half the cases mandating increased awareness of this patient group.

Efficacy of lysostaphin-coated titanium plates on implant-associated MRSA osteitis in minipigs.
The growing incidence of implant-associated infections (IAIs) caused by biofilm-forming Staphylococcus aureus in combination with an increasing resistance to antibiotics requires new therapeutic strategies. Lysostaphin has been shown to eliminate this biofilm. Own studies confirm the effectiveness in a murine model. The current study characterizes the effects of lysostaphin-coated plates in an IAI minipig model. ⋯ This study confirms the minipig model for examining IAI. Furthermore, coating of plates using lysostaphin could be a promising tool in the therapeutic strategies of IAI. Future studies should focus on coating technology of implants and on translation into a clinical model.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyDistraction osteogenesis versus induced membrane technique for infected tibial non-unions with segmental bone loss: a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis of available studies.
Infected tibial non-unions with associated bone loss can be challenging to manage. At present, the two main methods utilized in the management of these fractures include the Ilizarov technique of Distraction Osteogenesis (DO) using external fixator devices, or alternatively, the Induced Membrane Technique (IMT), devised by Masquelet. As there is a paucity of data directly comparing the outcomes of these techniques, there is no universal agreement on which strategy a surgeon should choose to use. ⋯ This study demonstrated that there is no clinical difference in outcomes for patients treated with Ilizarov DO versus Mq IMT techniques. The evidence base at present is relatively sparse and, therefore, we would recommend for further Level I studies to be conducted, to make more meaningful conclusions.
