Long-term physical and psychological outcome following traumatic hemipelvectomy.
First time examination of the physical and psychological long-term outcome following traumatic hemipelvectomy. ⋯ In our small patient cohort, satisfaction, pain and mobility tend to be better following primary amputation compared to limb preserving surgery.

Validation of a miniaturized handheld arterial pressure monitor for guiding full and partial REBOA use during resuscitation.
Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is a well-validated method for the control of noncompressible truncal hemorrhage. In lower resource or battlefield settings, the need for arterial line setup and monitoring is problematic and potentially prohibitive. We sought to evaluate the accuracy and precision of a miniaturized portable device (Centurion COMPASS®) versus standard arterial pressure monitoring using standard ER-REBOA and partial REBOA (pREBOA) as a high-fidelity and space-/time-conserving alternative. ⋯ The COMPASS® provides accurate and precise pressure measurements during standard and partial REBOA in both uninjured and shock conditions. This device may help extend and enhance capability in any low-resource/battlefield settings, or even eliminate the need for standard intra-arterial invasive pressure monitoring and external setup.

Midlife adults (50-64 y) are at risk for falls and subsequent injury; yet current guidance on fall screening only pertains to older adults (> 65 y). Herein, we evaluated whether frailty was predictive of readmission for falls in midlife trauma patients. ⋯ Pre-injury frailty may be an effective tool to predict risk of readmission for fall and discharge disposition in midlife trauma patients.

Falls from scaffolds are a common cause of occupational injuries and fatalities, however, the data concerning these injuries are scarce. The purpose of this study was to characterize the epidemiology, injury patterns, and outcomes of falls from scaffolds. ⋯ Falls from scaffolds are associated with more severe injuries and worse outcomes compared to ladder falls. Males in the fourth decade of life were disproportionally affected. Further research on fall prevention is warranted to decrease this important cause of death and disability.

Lateral para-olecranon approach: surgical guide and anatomical considerations to the anconeus branch: is there a nerve-free zone?
In the last decades, total elbow arthroplasty, elbow osteosynthesis and revision surgery have been more popularized. The study aimed to assess the course of the anconeus branch of the radial nerve in relation to two variations of the lateral para-olecranon approach, considering iatrogenic nerve injuries. ⋯ The data presented here allow preservation of the anconeus branch. The P1 forms a potential advantage by owing a broader safe zone. Using the centrally orientated approach seems to provide adequate nerve protection during surgery for one of the motor branches for extension of the elbow joint and might result in improved postoperative benefits.
