Observational StudyDiagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography for diagnosis of elbow fractures in children.
Elbow injuries and fractures are a common pathology in the pediatric emergency unit. X-ray and CT scan of the elbow are the standard diagnostic procedures, which increase exposure to radiation in children. Previous studies have shown that fractures can also be visualized by ultrasound (US); thus, this study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of elbow US compared with radiography for the diagnosis of elbow fracture in children. ⋯ Our results showed high diagnostic accuracy for the ultrasonography diagnosis of an elbow fracture, which allows us to confirm ultrasonography imaging of the elbow as a safe alternative in the primary evaluation of pediatric elbow injuries.

Prevention of severe injuries of child passengers in motor vehicle accidents: is re-boarding sufficient?
The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether prolonged re-boarding of restraint children in motor vehicle accidents is sufficient to prevent severe injury. ⋯ Although the younger MVPs are restraint in a re-boarding position, severe injury to the spine and head occurred more often, while older children as front-faced positioned MVPs suffered from significantly higher rates of abdominal and more often severe facial injury. Our data show, that it is more important to properly restrain children in their adequate car seats (i-size-Norm) and additionally consider the age-related physiological and anatomical specific risks of injury as well as co-factors in road traffic accidents, than only prolonging the re-boarding position over the age of 15 months as a single method.

Use of an intramedullary fibular strut allograft and dual locking plate in periprosthetic fractures above total knee arthroplasty: new application of a well-known treatment method in trauma.
Augmenting fracture fixation with intramedullary fibular graft has seen several applications such as in comminuted proximal humerus fractures, and femoral neck and shaft nonunion. The purpose of this study was to report the first case series demonstrating the novel application of an intramedullary fibular allograft strut and dual locking plates on complicated periprosthetic fracture of distal femur. ⋯ Surgical technique and Cases-series.

The effect of anteromedial support plate with three cannulated screws in the treatment of Pauwels type III femoral neck fracture in young adults.
This study is aimed to evaluate the clinical effects of anteromedial support plate combined with three cannulated screws on Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures in young adults. ⋯ Our preliminary results indicate that anteromedial support plate combined with three cannulated screws is a good alternative in the treatment of Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures in young adults with high union rate and low incidence of complications including nonunion and avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Outcomes of emergency appendectomies and cholecystectomies performed at weekends.
To determine the impact of hospital admissions and operations at weekends on two common emergency general surgeries (cholecystectomy and appendectomy) and their outcomes. ⋯ The surgical procedures of patients admitted to hospital on weekends tended to be delayed by 1 day and had a higher rate of complications. Appendectomy was the most common performed weekend surgery.
