Prospective assessment of key factors influencing treatment strategy and outcome of fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP).
Fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) are a clinical entity with an increasing significance in clinical practice. Little is known about the conditions, which influence decision making and outcome. ⋯ Conservative treatment is appropriate in patients with FFP type I as well as in patients with FFP type II, provided that the last ones are hospitalized immediately after the traumatic event. Surgical treatment is recommended in patients with higher fracture types, with delayed presentation or after unsuccessful conservative treatment. In the conservative and operative group, all selected parameters considerably improved between t1 and t4 with a steeper increase in the operative group. The rate of postoperative complications is low. The 1-year mortality rate is the lowest in the operative group. Surgical stabilization of FFP is safe and reliable provided it is performed with care and in the appropriate target group.

ReviewMortality and functional outcomes of fragility fractures of the pelvis by fracture type with conservative treatment: a retrospective, multicenter TRON study.
Fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) are becoming a commonly encountered disease in aging societies. We aimed to (1) clarify the overall survival rate of FFP, (2) compare survival rates by Rommens and Hofmann classification FFP type, (3) investigate the complications during hospitalization, and (4) investigate walking ability before and after injury depending on the type of fracture in patients with FFP treated conservatively. ⋯ The survival rate of patients treated by conservative treatment was relatively good. Type III in the Rommens and Hofmann classification was related to lower life expectancy and loss of walking ability.

Comparison of long-term outcomes from rib fractures for patients undergoing both operative and non-operative management: a survey analysis.
Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) has been gaining popularity for the treatment of rib fractures. Limited literature exists regarding the long-term effects of SSRF versus non-operative (NO) intervention. The goal of this study is to better understand these long-term effects, hypothesizing SSRF patients have better outcomes. ⋯ Patients who undergo SSRF show significant long-term improvements in pain scores and better return to baseline function with less overall issues from their rib fractures compared to those managed non-operatively.

Review Meta AnalysisSciatic nerve injury after acetabular fractures: a meta-analysis of incidence and outcomes.
To investigate the incidence and the outcome of post-traumatic and iatrogenic sciatic nerve palsy (SNP) associated with fractures of the acetabulum. The results of sciatic nerve grafting for treatment were also investigated. ⋯ A favorable outcome of both post-traumatic and iatrogenic SNP related to acetabular fractures has been found. Due to the poor results of sciatic nerve grafting, a "wait and see" approach may be the best option, in cases of a contused but anatomically intact sciatic nerve.
