Meta AnalysisThe effect of cerclage wiring with intramedullary nail surgery in proximal femoral fracture: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of cerclage wiring with intramedullary nail surgery in the treatment of proximal femoral fractures. ⋯ Intramedullary nailing with cerclage wiring is considered a useful treatment method for proximal femoral fractures. It enables anatomic reduction and stable fixation, thereby reducing union time and facilitating rapid functional recovery.

ReviewThe conundrum of the definition of haemorrhagic shock: a pragmatic exploration based on a scoping review, experts' survey and a cohort analysis.
Traumatic hemorrhagic shock (THS) is a complex, dynamic process and, no consensual definition of THS is available. This study aims (1) to explore existing definitions of traumatic hemorrhagic shock (THS), (2) to identify essential components of these definitions and (3) to illustrate in a pragmatic way the consequences of applying five of these definitions to a trauma registry. ⋯ This study demonstrates a large heterogeneity in the definitions of THS suggesting a need for standardization. Five candidate definitions were identified in a three-step process to illustrate how each shapes study cohort composition and impacts outcome. The results inform research stakeholders in the choice of a consensual definition.

ReviewBone defect treatment: does the type and properties of the spacer affect the induction of Masquelet membrane? Evidence today.
High clinical success rates have been reported with the Masquelet technique in the treatment of traumatic bone loss. An increasing number of studies suggest that various factors can influence the properties of induced membranes. Goal of this systematic review is to answer the following questions: (1) which are the ideal spacer properties (material, surface topography, antibiotic supplementation) to booster the quality and osteogenic potential of induced membranes? (2) what is the ideal time to perform the second-stage operation? ⋯ Membranes induced by smooth PMMA spacers loaded with low concentrations of antibiotics showed powerful osteogenic properties. Other materials such as Polypropylene or Calcium sulfate can also be used with good results. Despite current recommendation to perform the second stage operation in 4-8 weeks, membranes older than 8 weeks seem to have similar regenerative capacities to younger ones.
