3D printing of implants for patient-specific acetabular fracture fixation: an experimental study.
To test the effect of 3D printed implants, designed according to surgeon's individual plan, on the accuracy of reduction of an acetabular fracture model. ⋯ Patient-specific 3D printed plates and drill guides may facilitate retaining accurate reduction and fixation of select acetabular fracture patterns.

Fractures of the clavicle are common injuries, accounting 2.6-4% of all fractures in adults. Of these fractures, 21-28% are lateral clavicle fractures and 2-3% are medial clavicle fractures. Bipolar clavicle fractures are defined as a lateral and medial fracture and are uncommon. There is no consensus on the treatment of these fractures. The aim of this study is to provide a treatment on bipolar clavicle fractures based on the current literature. ⋯ A missed bipolar fracture can complicate the clinical progress. Surgical management of these fractures may be necessary; however, the treatment of choice depends on the age of the patient, daily activities and comorbidity.

Observational StudyIncreased 30-day mortality rate in patients admitted with hip fractures during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK.
Hip fractures are the most common traumatic injury in the UK's elderly population. Patients are often extremely frail with multiple comorbidities and so are at high risk of death should they contract COVID-19. This study aims to quantify the effects of COVID-19 on patients presenting with hip fractures to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). ⋯ The combination of fragility hip fracture and COVID-19 is associated with poor outcomes. COVID-19 has also indirectly increased mortality in this patient group.

The use of the E-PASS scoring system in determining complication development in patients with isolated acetabular fractures.
The decision to treat acetabular fractures is occasionally deferred or foregone in patients perceived to be unfit for surgery. The previously validated estimation of physiologic ability and surgical stress (E-PASS) score has been shown to predict outcome in a variety of fractures, and consists of a preoperative risk score (PRS), a surgical stress score (SSS), and a comprehensive risk score (CRS). ⋯ Latent patient factors have a clear influence on adverse outcomes in contrast to controllable factors such as surgical stress indicating an important role for perioperative care in reducing postoperative complications. Integrated orthogeriatric care with assessment of comorbidities, prevention or early recognition, and treatment of perioperative complications is essential.

Optimal plate position in minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis for mid-shaft clavicle fractures: simulation using 3D-printed models of actual clinical cases.
This study evaluated the optimal anatomical locking plate position using three-dimensional printed models of the clavicle. ⋯ Fitting the anatomical plate in MIPO for clavicle fractures depends on the fracture location. This can help surgeons determine the optimal plate for clavicle MIPO.
