Factors predicting adverse outcome in complete intra-articular distal radius fractures.
To determine risk factors associated with adverse functional and radiological outcome in complete intra-articular distal radius fractures (AO 23 C2-3) with a minimum follow-up of 1 year. ⋯ This cohort of complete intra-articular distal radius fractures (AO/OTA 23 C2-3) shows a good clinical outcome at medium-term follow-up independent of the radiological outcome. A concomitant polytrauma was associated with worse functional outcome and a higher complication rate. This is most likely due to the associated injury severity. These factors help the treating physician in decision-making and informing patients when treating displaced intra-articular radius fractures.

Epidemiology and cost of pediatric injury in Yaoundé, Cameroon: a prospective study.
Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death among children aged 10-19 years and over 95% of injury deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). As patterns of injury in the pediatric population may differ from those in adults, risks specific to children in LMICs need to be identified for effective injury prevention and treatment. This study explores patterns of pediatric injury epidemiology and cost in Yaoundé, Cameroon to inform injury prevention and resource allocation. ⋯ Injury is an important child health problem that requires adequate attention and funding. Policies, surgical capacity building, and health systems strengthening efforts are necessary to address the high burden of pediatric injuries in Cameroon. Pediatric injury prevention efforts in Cameroon should target pedestrian RTIs, falls, and burns and consider school-based interventions.

Intraarticular osteotomy of malunited tibial plateau fractures: an analysis of clinical results with a mean follow-up after 4 years.
Malunions are a common complication after tibial plateau fractures (TPF), leading to stiffness, pseudo-instability and posttraumatic osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to analyse the clinical outcome after intraarticular osteotomy of malunited TPF and to perform a failure analysis. ⋯ Intraarticular osteotomy of malunited TPF lead to good clinical results with significant clinical and radiological improvement in most cases while an impaired patient outcome correlated with a limited range of motion. This study is the first failure analysis of intraarticular osteotomy after malunited TPF published up to now.

Shotgun wounds pose diagnostic challenges due to variable fragment penetration and degradation of CT images. This study compared epidemiology and outcomes between shotgun wounds and gunshot wounds (GSWs), and defined the diagnostic capabilities of CT scan after shotgun wounds. ⋯ Shotgun injuries are far less frequent than GSWs but generally follow the same diagnostic and therapeutic considerations. Clinicians must be aware of the pitfalls of CT scanning after shotgun injuries, which can be falsely positive or falsely negative. A high index of suspicion for injury and a period of observation after negative CT scan may, therefore, be prudent.

Cerebral effects of resuscitation with either epinephrine or vasopressin in an animal model of hemorrhagic shock.
The use of epinephrine (EN) or vasopressin (VP) in hemorrhagic shock is well established. Due to its specific neurovascular effects, VP might be superior in concern to brain tissue integrity. The aim of this study was to evaluate cerebral effects of either EN or VP resuscitation after hemorrhagic shock. ⋯ Both vasopressors were effective in restoring hemodynamics and CPP and in maintaining brain oxygenation. With regards to the cerebral metabolism, we cannot support beneficial effects of VP in this model of hemorrhagic shock.
