ReviewDirect discharge of patients with simple stable musculoskeletal injuries as an alternative to routine follow-up: a systematic review of the current literature.
There is growing evidence that patients with certain simple stable musculoskeletal injuries can be discharged directly from the Emergency Department (ED), without compromising patient outcome and experience. This study aims to review the literature on the effects of direct discharge (DD) of simple stable musculoskeletal injuries, regarding healthcare utilization, costs, patient outcome and experience. ⋯ This systematic review supports the idea that DD of simple stable musculoskeletal injuries from the ED provides an opportunity to reduce healthcare utilization and costs without compromising patient outcomes/experiences. To improve comparability and facilitate implementation/external validation of DD, future studies should provide detailed DD eligibility criteria, and use a standard set of outcomes. Systematic review registration number: 120779, date of first registration: 12/02/2019.

ReviewMortality and functional outcomes of fragility fractures of the pelvis by fracture type with conservative treatment: a retrospective, multicenter TRON study.
Fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) are becoming a commonly encountered disease in aging societies. We aimed to (1) clarify the overall survival rate of FFP, (2) compare survival rates by Rommens and Hofmann classification FFP type, (3) investigate the complications during hospitalization, and (4) investigate walking ability before and after injury depending on the type of fracture in patients with FFP treated conservatively. ⋯ The survival rate of patients treated by conservative treatment was relatively good. Type III in the Rommens and Hofmann classification was related to lower life expectancy and loss of walking ability.

ReviewLessons learned from terror attacks: thematic priorities and development since 2001-results from a systematic review.
The threat of national and international terrorism remains high. Preparation is the key requirement for the resilience of hospitals and out-of-hospital rescue forces. The scientific evidence for defining medical and tactical strategies often feeds on the analysis of real incidents and the lessons learned derived from them. This systematic review of the literature aims to identify and systematically report lessons learned from terrorist attacks since 2001. ⋯ The lessons from terrorist attacks since 2001 follow a certain pattern and remained constant over time. Therefore, it seems to be more accurate to talk about lessons identified rather than lessons learned. To save as many victims as possible, protect rescue forces from harm, and to prepare hospitals at the best possible level it is important to implement the lessons identified in training and preparation.

ReviewSynthesis of the evidence on the impact of pre-operative direct oral anticoagulants on patient health outcomes after hip fracture surgery: rapid systematic review.
To synthesise the evidence on the impact of pre-operative direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) on health outcomes for patients who sustain a hip fracture. ⋯ The effect of DOAC use on hip fracture patient health was mixed, although patients on DOACs had a longer time to surgery. The review highlights the need for consistent measurement of health outcomes in patients with a hip fracture to determine the most appropriate management of patients with a hip fracture taking DOACs.
