A novel algorithm-driven hybrid simulation learning method to improve acquisition of endotracheal intubation skills: a randomized controlled study.
Simulation-based training is a clinical skill learning method that can replicate real-life situations in an interactive manner. In our study, we compared a novel hybrid learning method with conventional simulation learning in the teaching of endotracheal intubation. ⋯ We conclude that our novel algorithm-driven hybrid simulation learning method improves acquisition of endotracheal intubation with a high degree of acceptability and satisfaction by the learners' as compared with classic simulation-based training.

The study aimed at exploring an optimal temperature model of forced air warming during the first hour after induction and intraoperation to prevent hyperthermia for elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic abdominal surgery. ⋯ A temperature pattern of forced air warming set at 42 °C during the first hour after anesthesia induction and maintained with 38 °C was a suitable choice for elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic abdominal surgery lasting for more than 120 min.

Prevalence of risk stomach in laboring women allowed to unrestrictive oral intake: a comparative cross-sectional study.
Although restricting food intake during labor is recommended by guidelines, intrapartum starvation has not been popular in some regions. We conducted this comparative cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of risk stomach in non-fasted laboring women compared with fasted non-laboring women using gastric ultrasound. ⋯ This study confirms a higher prevalence of risk stomach presents in laboring women under a liberal eating policy, gastric ultrasound is therefore useful for this risk population if general anesthesia is required unexpectedly.

To explore the application effect of plan, do, check and action circulation management mode in improving the compliance of sepsis bundle treatment. ⋯ The implementation of PDCA cycle management mode can effectively improve the compliance of clinical staff to the bundle treatment of sepsis, improve the treatment efficiency of sepsis, and improve the quality of medical care.

A novel technique for assessment of post-extubation airway obstruction can successfully replace the conventional cuff leak test: a pilot study.
Post-extubation airway obstruction is an important complication of tracheal intubation. The cuff leak test is traditionally used to estimate the risk of this complication. However, the cuff leak test parameters are not constant and may depend on the respiratory system and ventilator settings. Furthermore, deflating the cuff also be a risk factor for patient-ventilator asynchrony and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Instead of using the cuff leak test, we measured the pressure of the leak to the upper airway through the gap between the tube and glottis with a constant low flow from the lumen above the cuff without deflating the cuff and called it "pressure above the cuff." The purpose of this study was to investigate whether pressure above the cuff can be used as an alternative to the cuff leak volume. ⋯ This study suggests that pressure above the cuff measurement may be a less complicated alternative to the conventional cuff leak test for evaluation of the risk of post-extubation airway obstruction.
