During pandemic situations, many guidelines recommend that surgical masks be worn by both healthcare professionals and infected patients in healthcare settings. The purpose of this study was to clarify the levels and changes of oxygen concentration over time while oxygen was administered over a surgical mask. ⋯ The FiO2 was lower when oxygen was administered over surgical masks than when patients did not wear surgical masks. Oxygen flow may need to be adjusted in moderately ill patients requiring oxygen administration.

Efficacy of modified thoracoabdominal nerves block through perichondrial approach in open gynecological surgery: a prospective observational pilot study and a cadaveric evaluation.
Modified thoracoabdominal nerves block through perichondrial approach (M-TAPA) was first described as a peripheral nerve block by Tulgar in 2019. This technique provides an analgesic effective range from Th7-11 with a single puncture per side. Although the efficacy and effective duration of M-TAPA have been reported, further examination is required. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the analgesic range and effective duration of M-TAPA in open gynecologic surgery. ⋯ IRB approval (No.2700; registered on July 10, 2020) and registration (UMIN Clinical Trials Registry: UMIN000041137 ; registered on July 17, 2020).

After surgery, millions of people suffer from delayed healing or wound dehiscence with subsequent severe complications, even death. Previous studies have reported that ropivacaine exhibits anti-proliferative and anti-migratory activities on numerous cells. Whether ropivacaine is able to influence the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ropivacaine on keratinocytes and its underlying molecular mechanism. ⋯ Our research demonstrated that ropivacaine treatment showed a more decreased wound closure rate. Mechanistically, we found that ropivacaine suppressed the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes and altered the expression of cytokines by inhibiting PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

Information on epidural analgesia delivered to parturient women is frequently incomplete, making it difficult for expectant mothers to make an appropriate choice for their delivery. We assessed the impact of a multimodal information session on epidural analgesia delegated to anesthetic nurses on new-mothers' satisfaction. ⋯ Information sessions on epidural analgesia delivered by anesthetic nurses was associated with improved satisfaction of women with their delivery. Such information sessions may be used in maternity wards to improve new-mothers' childbirth experience.

Impact of maternal lateral tilt on cardiac output during caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia: a prospective observational study.
Left uterine displacement (LUD) has been questioned as an effective strategy to prevent aortocaval compression after spinal anesthesia (SA) for cesarean delivery (CD). We tested if LUD has a significant impact on cardiac output (CO) in patients undergoing CD under SA during continuous non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring with Clearsight. ⋯ LUD did not show a significant impact on CO during continuous hemodynamic monitoring after SA for CD.
