Comparative study of a modified double-lumen tube ventilation control connector and traditional connector in clinical use: a randomised-controlled trial.
A Y-shaped rotatable connector (YRC) for double-lumen tubes (DLT) is invented and compared with the traditional connector (Y-shaped connector, YC). ⋯ Compared with YC, YRC was beneficial for maintaining depth of anesthesia, improves efficiency for the switch between one-lung and two-lung ventilation, and shortens the tube positioning time.

Dexmedetomidine was found to be protective against traumatic brain injury (TBI) in animal studies and safe for use in previous clinical studies, but whether it improves TBI patient survival remains to be determined. We sought to answer this question by analyzing data from the MIMIC clinical database. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine may improve the survival of TBI patients. It should be used with careful avoidance of hypotension.

Pediatric anesthesia care in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a challenge for clinicians. The recent debate about the role of anesthetic agent on neural development, encouraged an evaluation of their actual activity in this environment. In this active call survey, the authors sought to delineate the Italian situation regarding national centers, staff involved, monitoring tools available and sedation techniques. ⋯ We found significant heterogeneity in the daily clinical practice of sedation in MRI. Our results could be a starting point to evaluate the further evolution of approach to children and neonates in magnetic resonance setting.

Although the use of vasopressors to maintain haemodynamic goals after acute spinal cord injury (SCI) is still recommended, evidence regarding the target values and possible risks of this practice is limited, and data on haemodynamic parameters unaffected by catecholamines are rare. In this pilot study, we show the haemodynamic profile of patients with acute SCI mainly unaffected by vasopressor use and other factors that influence the cardiovascular system. ⋯ These findings could lead to an adaptation of the target range for SVRI and MAP in patients with acute SCI and therefore reduce the use of vasopressors.

Effect of postoperative ultrasound-guided internal superior laryngeal nerve block on sore throat after intubation of double-lumen bronchial tube: a randomized controlled double-blind trial.
Postoperative sore throat (POST) is one of the main adverse postoperative outcome after tracheal intubation using double-lumen endobronchial tubes (DLTs). The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound (US)-guided block of the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (iSLN) for alleviating POST after intubation of DLTs. ⋯ The use of US-guided iSLN block can be effectively and safely applied to relieve POST after intubation of DLTs on thoracic surgery.
