This study was conducted to examine the association between the A118G polymorphism of the OPRM1 gene and the risk of increased VAS scores in patients with colorectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic radical resection for which fentanyl was used. ⋯ The A118G polymorphism of the OPRM1 gene carrying wild gene A was a risk factor for VAS ≥ 4 in the PACU. Moreover, it is a risk factor for increased dosage of fentanyl in the PACU.

Analgesia after robot assisted radical cystectomy aims to reduce postoperative pain and opioid consumption, while facilitating early mobilization and enteral nutrition and minimizing complications. Epidural analgesia is currently recommended for an open radical cystectomy, but it is unclear if intrathecal morphine is a suiting, less-invasive alternative for a robot-assisted radical cystectomy. ⋯ This study showed that the effects of epidural analgesia and intrathecal morphine are comparable and that intrathecal morphine may be a suiting alternative for epidural analgesia.

Bochdalek congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a developmental defect in the posterolateral diaphragm, allowing herniation of abdominal contents into the thorax causing mechanical compression of the developing lung parenchyma and lung hypoplasia. We describe a case of an adult patient with a Bochdalek hernia who underwent minimally invasive right thoracotomy Perceval bioprosthetic aortic valve replacement (AVR) requiring one-lung ventilation (OLV) on the side of the hernia. This is a complex and challenging case that brings up numerous thought-provoking anesthetic implications. To the best of our knowledge, a Pubmed search did not reveal any publication to date of difficult airway management in an adult patient with CDH. ⋯ We report a case essentially dealing with an anatomically distorted difficult airway in a patient with left Bochdalek CDH undergoing a complex AVR. We describe anesthetic difficulties and unforeseen issues encountered; such as an extremely difficult DLT placement.

Postoperative effect of sufentanil preemptive analgesia combined with psychological intervention on breast cancer patients.
To explore the postoperative effects of sufentanil preemptive analgesia combined with psychological intervention on breast cancer patients undergoing radical surgery. ⋯ Sufentanil preemptive analgesia combined with psychological intervention can effectively relieve the postoperative pain of breast cancer patients.

This study used an epidural anesthesia practice kit (model) to evaluate the accuracy of epidural anesthesia using standard techniques (blind) and augmented/mixed reality technology and whether visualization using augmented/mixed reality technology would facilitate epidural anesthesia. ⋯ Augmented/mixed reality technology has the potential to contribute significantly to the improvement of epidural anesthesia techniques.
