From adolescence to menopause, hormone levels during the menstrual cycle affect various body systems, from the cardiovascular system to the water and electrolyte balance. This study investigated the effect of different phases of the menstrual cycle on circulatory function relative to changes in body position and combined spinal-epidural anaesthesia (CSEA). ⋯ Although the effect was slight, women in the follicular phase were better able to compensate and tolerate circulatory fluctuations than those in the luteal phase.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Early postoperative recovery in operating room after desflurane anesthesia combined with Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring and warming in lengthy abdominal surgery: a randomized controlled study.
This study aimed to determine whether the use of desflurane (DES) anesthesia combined with bispectral index (BIS) monitoring and warming is effective in reducing anesthesia-controlled operating room time (ACT) in patients undergoing lengthy abdominal surgery. ⋯ Desflurane anesthesia combined with BIS monitoring and warming is associated with early postoperative recovery in lengthy abdominal surgery.

Observational Study
The effect of patient positions on perfusion index.
The optimal position for surgery is one in which the patient is provided the best possible surgical intervention and put at minimum risk. Different surgical positions may cause changes in tissue perfusion. This study investigates the relationship between surgical patient positions and perfusion index. ⋯ Different body positions can cause changes in tissue perfusion. This should be considered in patient follow-up along with the perfusion index.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Analgesic effect of Ropivacaine combined with Dexmedetomidine on brachial plexus block.
This randomized controlled study investigated the analgesic effect of ropivacaine in combination with dexmedetomidine versus ropivacaine alone on brachial plexus block to provide alternative anesthetic means for upper limb trauma surgery. ⋯ The brachial plexus blocking effect of ropivacaine combined with dexmedetomidine was superior to that of ropivacaine alone, mainly intra-operatively and postoperatively.

Dental injury is a common perioperative complication, but there are no country specific data available, especially with the use of supraglottic airway devices (SAD). The aims of our study are to report the incidence, risk factors, and local practices in the management of perioperative dental injuries in Singapore. ⋯ Videolaryngoscopy with the McGrath MAC is associated with an increased likelihood of dental injury. This could be either because videolarygoscopes were used when increased risk of dental trauma was anticipated, or due to incorrect technique of laryngoscopy. Future studies should be done to establish the causality. The management of dental injuries could be improved with development of departmental guidelines.
