Propofol formulated with medium- and long-chain triglycerides (MCT/LCT propofol) has rapidly replaced propofol formulated with long-chain triglycerides (LCT propofol). Despite this shift, the modified Marsh and Schnider pharmacokinetic models developed using LCT propofol are still widely used for target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol. This study aimed to validate the external applicability of these models by evaluating their predictive performance during TCI of MCT/LCT propofol in general anesthesia. ⋯ The modified Marsh and Schnider models, initially developed for LCT propofol, remain clinically acceptable for TCI with MCT/LCT propofol.

Approximately 40 to 60% of patients with sepsis develop sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC), which is associated with a substantial increase in mortality. We have found that molecular hydrogen (H2) inhalation improved the survival rate and cardiac injury in septic mice. However, the mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the regulatory mechanism by which hydrogen modulates autophagy and its role in hydrogen protection of SIC. ⋯ Hydrogen exerts protective effect against SIC, which may be achieved through the promotion of autophagy and mitophagy.

Analgesic effect of the ultrasound-guided thoracolumbar paravertebral block in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
Paravertebral block has similar effect as epidural anesthesia, and has good somatic and visceral analgesic effect. Paravertebral block is widely used in thoracic surgery, but rarely used in abdominal surgery. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided thoracolumbar paravertebral block significantly reduces intraoperative and postoperative opioid consumption, and provides better analgesia in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy, which is a recommendable combined anesthesia technique.

Effect of esketamine on the EC50 of remifentanil for blunting cardiovascular responses to endotracheal intubation in female patients under general anesthesia: a sequential allocation dose-finding study.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of esketamine on the dose-effect relationship between remifentanil and the cardiovascular response to endotracheal intubation during target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol. ⋯ Combined with TCI of propofol 3.0 μg/mL for anesthesia induction, esketamine significantly reduced the EC50 and EC95 of remifentanil to inhibit the cardiovascular response to endotracheal intubation.
