The use of pupillometry as monitoring of intraoperative analgesia in the consumption of analgesics during the first 12 hours after surgery.
Intraoperative evaluation of analgesia remains today often based on heart rate and arterial pressure fluctuations. None of these parameters is specific. Incorrect handling during this process may increase surgical morbi-mortality of the patients and their acute postoperative pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of intraoperative analgesia controlled by pupillometry on postoperative analgesic consumption and the pain intensity in the first 12h in the hospital room, after major gynecological surgery. ⋯ Monitoring of the intraoperative analgesia by pupillometry was able to reduce the intensity of the acute postoperative pain and analgesic consumption in the first 12h in the hospital room after major gynecological surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialSacroiliac joint pain: Prospective, randomised, experimental and comparative study of thermal radiofrequency with sacroiliac joint block.
To compare the analgesic effects between the blockade and bipolar thermal radiofrequency in the treatment of sacroiliac joint pain. ⋯ Bipolar radiofrequency "palisade", especially when the distance between the needles was increased, was more effective and lasted longer, compared to join block and steroids, in relieving pain sacroiliac joint.

The study of acid-base equilibrium, its regulation and its interpretation have been a source of debate since the beginning of 20th century. Most accepted and commonly used analyses are based on pH, a notion first introduced by Sorensen in 1909, and on the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation (1916). ⋯ This innovative approach seems more suitable for studying acid-base abnormalities in critically ill patients. The aim of this paper is to update acid-base concepts, methods, limitations and applications.
