Historical Article[A new toy: upswing in curare use in Spanish anesthesia].
The introduction of curare for general anesthesia by Harold Griffith in 1942 was one of the most important moments in the development of anesthesiology. However, several years passed before curare came to be used in Spain. We review the early application of curare and the role played by Robert Macintosh, Professor of Anaesthesia at Oxford, in introducing the drug to Spain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Lung function and quality of analgesia after lung resection with epidural alfentanyl].
To evaluate the effects on postoperative pulmonary function and quality of analgesia of two protocols for epidural infusion of alfentanil after lung resection. ⋯ Thoracic epidural analgesia with alfentanil and lidocaine improves postoperative lung function and reduces the need for top-up analgesia in comparison with lumbar epidural infusion of alfentanil.

Comparative Study[Core and cutaneous thermal changes in the upper limb after anesthesia induction].
To describe and compare the core-cutaneous thermal and photoplethysmographic time-course effects after induction of general anesthesia with propofol, fentanyl and vecuronium. ⋯ Anesthetic induction with propofol, fentanyl and vecuronium produces cutaneous vasodilatation in the upper limb unequally: the greatest increase in skin temperature occurs at the fingertip, while forearm and upper arm temperatures increase less. We think that skin vasodilatation in peripheral distal areas may play an important role in redistributing core heat during anesthesia.
