Biography Historical Article[Analysis of the anesthesiology doctoral theses in Cadiz during the Six-Year Revolution].
Manuel Ruiz Zorrilla, after the 1868 Revolution, made possible in Spain the decentralization of doctorate's studies, which traditionally were done in Madrid. It was because of that fact that the Doctor degree could be obtained at the Faculty of Medicine in Cadiz during the Sexenio Revolucionario. The intention of this work is to analyse the anaesthesiologist doctorate thesis defended at the Faculty of Medicine in Cadiz during that period. We give unpublished news about the evolution of the obstetrics anaesthesia in Spain and different opinions about the use of anaesthetics in labours at that time.

We present the clinical case of a thirteen-year-old male patient who suffered a malignant hyperthermia syndrome after an adenoidectomy under general anaesthesia. The recovery of the patient was successful with the specific treatment of dantrolene. We believe it is interesting to publish all the cases of malignant hyperthermia in order to have a better knowledge of the real incidence in our country.

[Continuous block of the brachial plexus with nerve stimulation. Intra and postoperative control in orthopedic surgery of the arm].
A perivascular axillary plexus block was performed to 87 patients scheduled for orthopedic surgery of hand or arm using an electric nerve stimulator. A catheter was inserted for the postoperative pain control. ⋯ Complications were: arterial puncture (3), difficulty in inserting catheter (3), injection out of the sheath (1), pain at the electric stimulation (3). [Determination of subanesthetic concentrations of halothane in the environment of operating and recovery rooms].
Concentrations of halothane in parts per million (ppm) in the air were determined during 4 days in the operating rooms and the recovery room of pediatric surgery during the course of surgical anesthesia by inhalation. The operating rooms did not have an anesthetic gas scavenging system. ⋯ We found concentrations between 4.7 ppm and 34.2 ppm that exceed those considered as admissible that range from 2 to 5 ppm. Our present recommendations to reduce the atmospheric contaminating anesthetic gases are the use of scavenging equipment, air-conditioned rooms and routine inspection and leak detection of apparatus and anesthetic circuits.

Historical Article[The Medical Telegraph (1847-1850) and the introduction of anesthesiology in Spain].
The object of our study is to amplify the knowledge of Spanish anesthesiology in the 19th century analyzing the role filled by El Telégrafo Médico (1847-1850) at the introduction of anesthesiology in Spain. We have obtained 32 articles on anaesthesiology. ⋯ Eleven articles refer to ether, 17 to chloroform and 4 to other anesthetics. Spanish medical professionals received relevant information about this subject from this medical journal edited in Barcelona.
