Case ReportsBilateral single shot erector spinae plane block for pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum surgery in 2 pediatric patients.
Numerous publications have emerged on the application of erector spinae plane block in adult population. There are few reports of the use of this block in pediatric patients. The objective is to report 2 cases of adolescents, one diagnosed with pectus excavatum and the other one with pectus carinatum undergoing reconstructive surgery in which a bilateral single-shot erector spinae plane block was performed as an analgesic technique. ⋯ After the surgery they were extubated and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. During their postoperative period they had visual analogic scale values less than 4 and no long term narcotics were used during the intraoperative and postoperative period. Bilateral single shot erector spinae plane block was effective as an analgesic technique for the intraoperative and postoperative period in pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum surgery in adolescents.

Erector spinae plane block: A cadaver study to determine its mechanism of action.
The erector spinae plane (ESP) block is a novel technique for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. Its mechanism and site of action has not yet been explained properly. ⋯ From the data collected in this study, it can be deduced that the blockade of the ESP has a mechanism of anaesthetic action similar to paravertebral blocks. The site from which the anaesthetic would cross from the posterior plane of the spine to the anterior region of the thorax was not clear, and should be investigated in future works.

Observational StudyUltrasound measurement of anatomical parameters of the upper airway in adults.
Most of the works on ultrasound airway anatomy are limited to a morphological description. A study was conducted in order to provide an objective normal range of measurements. ⋯ Ultrasound allows the anatomy of upper airway to be evaluated, as well as to calculate distances between the anatomical structures. The study defines these distances in adult volunteers without clinical difficult airway criteria.

Observational StudyDescriptive study of ultrasound images of the upper airway obtained after insertion of laryngeal mask.
To evaluate clinical usefulness of ultrasound images of the upper airway in order to check correct laryngeal mask placement. ⋯ Upper airway ultrasound is a useful diagnostic method to evaluate laryngeal mask placement. Laryngeal oedema was not observed after removal of the device.
